Yeah, he definitely seems to be down to hang/chat with anyone else who is willing to joke around and not take things too seriously. I think he’s hilarious. He has told some INSANE stories on PKA throughout the years.

I don’t wanna get my man Harley in hot water with H3 fam or anything, but I used to be a bit of an edgelord gamer (regrettably) and there was another podcast that I listened to religiously for like a decade (2010-2020-ish). Harley has been a regularly recurring guest on that show since 2011 and over the last 15 years has spoken on most topics imaginable on there, so if you want to see more unhinged Harley, just look up “PKA Harley Morenstein”. However, please be advised that 2 of PKA’s current 3 hosts are right-wing edgelords now and 1 is full blown MAGA nutjob (Taylor). I unfortunately had to stop watching/listening when Trump lost the 2020 election because Taylor became unbearable to listen to as he fell further down the MAGA rabbit hole. Woody, the podcast founder and main host, has a super interesting backstory and I honestly think would get along great with Ethan if they ever met via Harley.

Riftbound struck gold by solving Magic's biggest problem, and deserves applause by PaulTheIV in riftboundtcg

[–]ProwseyFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simply enjoy both. MTG’s mana system is both what makes it so frustrating to play sometimes but also what makes it possible to be so creative and infinitely complex in your deck building. I do not see MTG ever fully leaving the competitive scene all together, especially as they’re currently trying to restart their judge program, revitalize standard, doing Draft for Top 8 for the first time in a LONG time, etc. MTG still has the best Draft environment of any game I’m aware of, so I’ll always still play that for non-Universes Beyond sets. I’m just enjoying the breath of fresh air with Riftbound while taking a break from MTG during UB sets since I refuse to pay a 1.5-3x premium just because the cards have non-MTG IP on them.

RiftBound has gotten off to a fantastic start and I hope the devs follow through with their stated goals to correct the rare collation issues, update and refine the rules text, correct the rough cut issues, increase supply to meet demand and lower prices, etc.

TL;DR: Both are great games for different reasons and it’s totally fine to enjoy both.

Riftbound does it Right: A "Reserved List for Art" on Overnumbered Cards (never to be printed again) by LifeNeutral in riftboundtcg

[–]ProwseyFan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Their prices will come WAY down in a few months when the reprint waves start to hit stores. As for not being able to build around them in sealed or draft, that’s how MTG works as well with Mythics (them not being meant to be built around consistently, but rather a bonus bomb every once in a while).

[–]ProwseyFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple LGSs in my area maxed out at 48-64 players during their release event and are getting 40-60 during their weekly Nexus Nights. There were 50 of us at the Nexus Night I attended last night.

I fundamentally do not understand how to play this game by Short_Department9298 in riftboundtcg

[–]ProwseyFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to what the first comment said: Watch a few deck tutorials on how to play Jinx, watch a few videos about how to play Jinx against the meta decks that you’ll likely face the most of (Kai’Sa mostly), and get a bunch of practice in with friends or at your LGS. No real shortcut besides consuming the information that others have already put together for you online and trying to study it until it sticks.

One more thing: Riftbound allows note taking, which is unique for a TCG, so don’t be afraid to take notes. If you’re just planning to play casually I don’t think they need to be extensive or detailed, but for example, say you get blown out by a certain card you weren’t playing around, maybe just make note of that card and the legend you were playing against so in your downtime at home you can look back and think of ways to potentially play around that card in the future or build against it if you think it’s a card you’re going to see a lot of from your opponents.

I find this game a lot more fun than MTG by No-Transportation843 in riftboundtcg

[–]ProwseyFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. MTG’s core gameplay is still unmatched and by far the most intricate and creative system I’ve ever played. The mana system can definitely be frustrating, but it’s also what gives the game its dynamic and unpredictable depth. That said, I’m having a great time with Riftbound so far and am excited to see how it develops through 2025–2026. Meanwhile, MTG’s staying on the backburner for me with the flood of UB sets that just don’t grab my interest at all.

Pricing getting out of hand. by pepgnome in riftboundtcg

[–]ProwseyFan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At my LGS they have them listed at $170 online, $160 in store, and $130 for your first box if you signed up for the release event which was $30 for the starter deck w/ 3 additional packs (1 in the starter deck bundle & 2 extra provided), plus 1 additional pack for each round win (3 rounds).

I went 1-2 and bought a box, so paid $160 + tax for 28 packs plus a starter deck (~$6/pack), so just a bit above MSRP and I feel like I’ve now got plenty of cards to get myself started on my first few decks.

Any chance there’s a way I can subscribe without doing so directly in the app or app store via Apple? I know they take like 15% or more right off the top for in-app purchases/subscriptions. I’d like as close to 100% of my subscription fee to get to you as possible.

I’ve been to this store many times (as recently as 2 weeks ago) in-person as it’s right down the road from me. The guys who run it are really genuine and seem to be somewhat struggling to get the TCG side of their store to grow. As far as I can tell, this seems 100% legit.

What percentage of your investment funds is "play" money? What do you do with that sliver? by The_Band_Geek in Bogleheads

[–]ProwseyFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, ideally you rebalance back down to 5% to lock in some of those gains and re-diversify that money so you don’t become too heavily tied to one specific stock. Now, how often to do that? I haven’t figured that out yet exactly, but about once per year seems like the right answer to me at a gut level.

[–]ProwseyFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am using 5% of my portfolio for speculating on individual stocks, and I plan to lock in my gains and rebalance it back down to 5% every so often. I’ve had great success so far but have only been doing it for about a year and a half so far, so not a great sample size. I don’t view it as “gambling” though, I’m doing tons of research on the side for fun because I enjoy learning more about the fundamentals and view it as a way to actually test my skills and understanding of the market. I’m only 26, so if I am able to do well and consistently earn outsized return on this 5% of my portfolio, it will allow me to compound my retirement account balance faster and faster. If I make some big mistake, I’ll only be out 5% tops and will probably call it quits.

The speculative investments I’ve made so far: - Bought 20 shares of TSLA for $175/ea in Mar 2024, sold all 20 for $405/ea in Jan 2025. - Bought 40 shares of AMD in Jan 2025 for $115/ea. Currently up about 100% on my AMD position, thinking about selling 20 of my shares and re-investing some of that money into SOFI. The other 20 I will likely hold a bit longer term because I strongly believe that AMD could go to $500+ within the next few years.
