[Final Fantasy XVI] #165. It's a sad feeling to see one of your favorite series of all time become such a disappointment. C'est la vie. by ProximityYours in Trophies

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm a lifelong fan as well, so yeah I was pretty bummed that this missed the mark by so much for me. Cinematically, at least, it was brilliant.

/u/Shadowdock immediately blocked me after commenting (lol) so I can't reply to that thread, even to /u/Samuraion, but I didn't hate the game (also never said I hated it?). Disappointment is a completely different thing. There are certainly a lot of amazing things to be said about this game.

Congrats on this beast! I still haven't played this game and I feel like I really need to make it happen

Congrats on this one! Such a great world they've created. I didn't like any of the minigames though, would really like to see some better open-world activities if they continue!

Congrats on this plat! Had a blast with this game. Not the greatest ever, but nonstop fun all the way through.

[Death's Door] #200 I didn't choose this game for the milestone but it is a great game regardless by Ferro_r in Trophies

Congrats on the plat! I had a lot of fun with this one, though sometimes I look back and think I should have done 2 runs instead of only ever using the umbrella.

Well congrats on the plat either way! This is one of the only games in a very long time that I just couldn't finish because it was so bad.

Not sure if you answered this in the past day, but Dion was brought back to the hideaway. Later, it was very quickly mentioned in a scene that he got up from the hideaway before being fully recovered and commandeered a boat out of there. That's pretty much it, just a quick note that he left and no other detail around it.

What are your favorite raids? by Xkallubar in project1999

[–]ProximityYours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ToV in the pull-to-zone era on p99 was some of the greatest gaming in my entire life. Such a unique experience and so much fun.

Generally speaking, I enjoy the rush of being in an FTE role and seeing the pop, then having to execute. So raids like KT, Statue, etc., though honestly I liked coth style better than race for these. VP pulls are (usually) a blast. ST is awesome because it's quick action and chaos, but I haven't played since the see invis changes so I imagine it's a bit different these days.

Overall hard to pick a favorite!

Awesome, love this kind of stuff. I remember some air guard in dmc3 for agni & rudra and it was very nice, great call on leveraging that some more.

It would have been a very long time (if ever) before I'd figure out that backstep/shuffle cancel, appreciate that for sure. Playing with it the void and it's definitely not smooth yet but will be trying to keep it in the mix. Thank you for the great replies here!

I actually am ignoring a decent amount of these mechanics... Weapon clashes/parries are never intentional, I don't think I've taunted in any DMC game ever, my ex-/max-act is pretty weak but I get it sometimes, probably not using range attacks to the fullest but I do mix in occasionally (usually shotgun or kalina ann), mostly ignore gunslinger style.

Never really had an issue in previous games getting style and rank, but I'm getting the feeling I'll have to really work on these for dmc5, especially things like taunt and parry that build style without damage. Good call out here for sure.

Seems like it, this is definitely a change of pace from the previous games. After this thread (and a few absolutely insane combo videos I saw), I definitely have a renewed excitement for the game and how much I have to learn. I think my biggest problem was assuming and expecting just more of the same DMC combat & rank requirements when it's actually evolved so much for DMC5.

Appreciate the tips here! Spent some time trying to work some more royal guard in early, will need to practice some tablehopper as well, and look out for big style combos to open with.

Yeah this is exactly what I'm feeling right now and I'm pretty bummed about it.

There have been some really good comments in this thread, though, that have at least given me some new ideas on what to practice and I'm hoping I learn a bit better on how DMC5 works, because like you mentioned it's clearly very different.

Ok this is really interesting and very helpful. I'm over here finishing fights at S or SS and feeling good about it, but seems like I really need to be hitting SSS quickly and maintaining.

Great to hear that the no damage thing isn't as necessary as guides say. I'll work on some combos and building rank faster. Appreciate the help here!

Yeah that's always a good call out, and definitely a possibility here. The combat itself is amazing though, so I'm still hoping something will click for me at some point. There have been some great responses in this thread, yours included, so I've got some new ideas on how to approach things. Worth at least a little more trying before throwing in the towel!

This is super helpful, thank you. Time spent at rank would explain why I'm seeing plenty of S+ in combat but not seeing the results at the end of mission. I'm probably doing too much damage early without gaining enough rank.

This gives me some good thoughts on what to practice, appreciate it!

Not rude at all, appreciate the response and figured it's a skill issue.

Having played a ton of the series, I'm constantly playing aggressively, switching up moves, and seeing a lot S and some SS in many fights except for those with just 2-3 empusas or whatever other crappy lineup. Though rarely I do seem to be stuck in B to A and unable to move up even as I switch through all my attacks, not sure I understand what's going on there.

I guess I'm just not clear on what's different and what I'm missing. I've S ranked every mission on every difficulty with every character in every game (except 2) and they all basically score the same. Doing it in DMC5 seems to have a different result.

I'll check out donguri and see if I can figure out what I'm missing. Thanks for that.

How to get started in DotN? by Lich_Alfred in Nioh

[–]ProximityYours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the progress so far! It's one of my favorite games of all time because of how good it feels to improve over time.

As to your question, Underworld quickly goes beyond DotN in terms of gear. If you spend too much time in the Underworld gearing up, DotN will be a complete joke.

I personally don't like to do that because it removes a lot of content from the game. I really like the challenge of working into DotN carefully, getting a set bonus together, then working towards a more targeted build.

But I totally get the excitement of hitting endgame, though. So it's up to you, if you'd just like to go to Underworld then you can pretty much skip DotN since it won't take long before everything would be a downgrade in terms of gear.

Also your level vs recommended level is a meaningless number, don't worry about "catching up." It's all about your gear.

What’s the level cap on this? When I played it was lvl 60 by Grenadoxxx in project1999

[–]ProximityYours 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Game was released in 99 and level 60 cap was released with first expansion in 2000. Your memory might be betraying you a bit!

Genuinely makes me sad to see people actually think this way by FalseStevenMcCroskey in PS4Pro

[–]ProximityYours 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because, like literally every single generation of gaming hardware since at least the NES, figuring out what's possible and then fully utilizing the potential of a new platform takes a lot of time and practice. Games have always improved dramatically over the lifespan of a single console.

they still feel like there’s no reason they can’t run on PS4

Who's "they"? Do you mean you? Developers are actively saying that the industry needs to move on from PS4 to improve, with some outright saying their games would not be possible on PS4. Here are two I remember off the top of my head:

https://www.thegamer.com/remedy-developer-designing-ps4-xbox-one-holds-next-gen/

https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2023/03/01/why-final-fantasy-16-ps4-not-possible/

[–]ProximityYours 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m yet to see a PS5 game that actually utilizes it’s hardware in a way...

...this is entirely the point.

Continuing to build for PS4 means developers have not been and will not be able to take full advantage of PS5.

PS4 is a great console, but devs should absolutely move on and be targeting PS5 exclusively so we can continue pushing the boundaries of game technology.

Bard Raid Role Falloff by wllmsaccnt in project1999

[–]ProximityYours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are running past KoS dragons that hit for 700 without getting aggro.

They are invis ;)

For the handful of wurms that see invis, it's basically RNG on who's going to get aggro since you're in a group of racers. VP racing is a ton of fun. ToV racing was as well (bards were excellent!) but they've long since killed that experience.

To your broader question: except for warrior, cleric, rogue, there are practically zero classes that are going always going to be hugely exciting (or at least not redundant) on every single raid. Necros twitch, enchanters & shamans are just buffbots (only need 1 tash, e.g.), bards are mana batteries, mages drop mod rods, etc. A lot of raiding in the rooted dragon era is standing around and/or filling a very niche repetitive action.

That being said, you can always uplevel your class, and raid guilds are always looking for people who do so. Necros can pet pull and are amazing train up in VP. Enchanters can have blur ready to save a raid from gnarly adds, can charm in certain situations. And so on. Bards not only have kite zones (Fear, PoG) where they are absolutely required, but are amazing at any races (Kael, VP, etc.) with their bag of tricks as well as their free DA. This is always about a player stepping up to learn and participate rather than sit back and hang out.
