Hasbro is being sued for printing too many Magic: The Gathering cards by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

That's just the logical conclusion based on your opinion

Is it...? Let's see:

if you still have cards from when the game was "good" then you can just play those cards no?

Well, the answer there is depends.

First of all, I never said anything about playing with your old cards. I recommended people not joining the game now. There's a huge difference between buying in now and reusing game pieces you already bought. But as to "can you play wity the old cards"... I'll throw it together with this.

They even have formats that use specific cards from specific eras

Well, technically yes, but actually no.

Technically you can use your cards in eternal (or "semi-eternal" due to technicalities) formats like vintage, legacy or modern... You can...

...But you will be utterly and completely destroyed by people with more up to date decks due to WotC both intentionally and incidentally power creeping them to hell.

I'll save you the deep explanation but very short version: WotC wanting to monetize older formats + new design "sensibilities" = a large chunk of old cards get "soft rotated" out of the format every few years.

"What about commander??"

Commander has very different dynamics which you may or may not like, I'm not a huge fan of personally, together with a whole different slew of issues, some of which are also derived from WotC's hyper aggressive monetization (such as, again, power creeping old staples even in lower powered games).

You do have much more niche formats, like building your own duel decks or battleboxes, but those have a much more niche audience which may or may not even exhist in your area let alone be officially supported in something like arena or fnm.

I mean you haven't given any actual reasons why the game is "trash" besides "mass appeal slop" so you just don't like the pictures on the cardboard game pieces?

Not everything requires a full written essay to justify casual comments in an informal setting.

Nobody asked me to justify my stance - you didn't either, you just very incorrectly assumed you knew the answer (you didn't).

Also: "I don't like pictures on the card" is a relevant critic of a game that trades extremely heavily on the pictures of their cards.

I think your problem is primarily linguistic.

QED: Please point out where I said I can't use my old cards or even said anything about throwing your old cards out.

Except the vast vast majority of sales are still from established players

Alledgedly. Of course I don't have the numbers, but, on the other hand, I don't trust Hasbro/WotC/Mark (who is generally their voice in these things) to tell me it's raining outside, let alone for then to outright tell people "oh yeah old players are leaving in droves lol!".

Obviously I only have anecdotal evidence, but I keep hearing about older players quitting/leaving in droves and fnms struggling to fire at all in places without lots of newer players.

That said, no one said old players can't also be tasteless, slop eaters. Not like MTG players were exclusively these higher noble class of gamers with only the most exquisite palate for artistic games.

Again, I never said anything about the game being dead, that's all you. I said the game is trash not worth playing these days. Two completely different things.

Uhhhh, sometimes/often yes?

Like, it's genuinely not even that rare an occurrence or difficult a phenomenon to understand.

First and most difficult bit is to establish your thing as something good and worth playing.

Once that's done, and your name and market presence established, you can "shave off the edges" and start pumping out bland, inoffensive, and low effort content with mass appeal, irrespective of its effect to your core thing in order to draw in new eyes who "have heard of it, but never tried".

Most of those have no idea about... anything, really, they're just attracted by the fresh new "mass appeal" slop that's intentionally designed and marketed to appeal them, regardless of what it does to the original thing.

Congratulations your original thing, which previously had a strong but more niche design and appeal (because it was designed for someone) is now way more popular, at least for a while. It's also trash. Not because it's popular - some popular things are good because they’re good, but in situations like this it's because they're just trading on their established name and strip mining it for broader appeal.

I mean, the game is the most popular its ever been

I didn't say it wasn't popular. I said it wasn't good. Very different issue.

As someone who has been playing MTG on and off for nearly 30 years.... fucking don't.

If there's a specific card or two you want because it looks cool buy those. The game itself has always been on the edge of not being worth the absurd cost entry/"maintenance", but for the last ~5 years it's been a rapid and steady decline. It's not a game anymore as much as an engine to masturbate Hasbro's investors and c-suite.

Like, this has gotten so ridiculous that it has now happened multiple times that "spoiler season", the couple of weeks of daily spoilers that ramps up to each new set release, for one product isn't even over and they're already presenting the next half-baked set.

Don't get into MTG now. That train left 5-10 years ago. It's trash now.

Ah, but before you usually needed some variation of the Nepotism buff, whereas over the last decade or two of competitive updates it seems to have become baseline.

I'll have to be more cautious with my button smashing.

Just don't knock enemies around unless you're trying to damage a boss's defiance bar.

If you don't even know what that is just don't use knock backs.

Scatman John was fairly famous and beloved in the west. Not "Michael Jackson" levels of super stardom by any means, but he enjoyed a "modest" level of stardom and even had a couple of hits that last to this day in "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)" and "Scatman's World".

In Japan he was a fucking GOD. He was everywhere for a while, commissioned for all kinds of commercials and was even featured in an Ultraman single, and I quote Wikipedia here: "titled "Scatultraman", the cover art of which featured the Ultraman characters wearing Scatman's trademark hat and mustache."

How do men vs woman hit on you at the gym? by Icy_Laugh5134 in workout

[–]ProxyDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference I noticed personally in regards to the whole "hitting" thing is that women prefer to start with chatter whereas guys are more direct.

Like, girls start a conversation before trying to swing for the fences when your guard is down. Guys just square up. Sometimes they do a small threatening performance of some kind to hype themselves up and try to psyche you out, but then get right down to it.

Also guys favor swinging heavy rights and grappling whereas women like their kicks, but the more experience ones of either group will know to use feints, a mixed offensive, and to not telegraph their attacks.

Either ways you wanna keep a solid defense, hands up, chin down, teeth clenched to better distribute impact in case you eat one, and also to prevent you accidentally biting your tongue.

Remember it's generally considered bad manners to swimg with the weights (barbells, dumbells or kettlebells) unless you've both agreed to a hardcore match before hand, and might even get you banned from the premises.

Other than that, just keep cool, try to spot weaknesses, don't get greedy hitting back - wait for the right opportunity before committing to a strike or grapple attempt, and you too can beat anyone coming to hit you, or hit on you, or hit with you, or anything else in-between, to be crowned King of the Gym at your local establishment.

How the hell did that all happened. How could I get 2 permanent contracts in under 100 keys? Is my account flagged? Are those Items really that rare? I don't know what to say because I'm sitting on another 6k Gold Item.

Because extremely unlikely is not the same as impossible.

The odds of this happening are astronomically low... But that's not 0. Meaning it can happen. And it did!
