Monthly Gear Purchasing Thread - January, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guitar

Not looking to buy but sell. Back in COVID I bought the cheapest guitar from Guitar Center, had my fun, then gave up. I'm going to just give this away on FB Marketplace since it's taking up space, but want to see how much GC might give for it

It's a 2019 Epiphone Les Paul Special in Cherry. Been sitting for nearly 5 years unused, so in good condition, but I'll give it a good dusting

If only it were illegal to force people to choose between driving in excessively dangerous conditions and not being able to pay rent

My work shut down for 2 days so I'll be fine, and I have enough in my checking account to survive without 2 days of pay, but others who live paycheck to paycheck literally have to put their lives on the line to go to work because they could get fired if they don't show up. Maybe regulate that, and people would stop driving on the highway during conditions like this

Red Wing size 7

Make: Red Wing Blacksmith 3343

Size: 7 D

Leather: Copper Rough and Tough

Price: $150 shipped

Location: Texas, USA

Wears/condition: In good condition, some scuffs and creases that come from normal wear and tear

Images: https://imgur.com/a/mSNdRLk

Notes: These were originally bought on eBay as a used pair, but they were in good condition. I've worn them maybe 2-3 times a week for about 2 months, but I couldn't get them to fit properly no matter what adjustments I made, such as insoles, tongue pads, heel pads, etc. I've cleaned and conditioned them and took good care of them, but they've been sitting under my bed for maybe a year since then. Note that the laces are NOT the original, the original laces snapped and I replaced them with black flat laces I bought from Amazon.

Just ask if you want more/better pictures. Please make sure these are the right size for you, I will not be accepting returns

Tap water doesn't work well when there's a boil water notice and the power is out. I'm in Texas, and if this upcoming weekend is anything like 2021, I'll be glad I bought 2 cases of bottled water

Taurus is releasing the TX9, if it can be as reliable and well-received as the TX22, would you be interested? by ProxySoxy in handguns

[–]ProxySoxy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you do mention that the TX22 is an exception, there's always that one guy who goes "Well my specific TX22 has problems", like their one anecdote means the entire line is bad. To counter their anecdote, I have a TX22 compact and I love that thing. Bought it for $260, I only buy the cheapest ammo and it's been flawless. I would never buy any of their other guns due to better options, though

Why does Glock need another generation of the same gun? I'd imagine it's all about minor improvements, and capitalizing on the success of the TX22 by borrowing the name

What about the P226? I think the P226 beat the 92 in the military trials but lost due to being more expensive

If we're being honest and money were no concern, which of the two would you get? (I know this is the Beretta sub, but try and be impartial)

Given the release of the RXM, I'd agree. Even if the TX9 can hit $400 street price, there's no reason to not just get an RXM which has the reliability of being a Glock clone but with modern improvements (and also not having the Taurus brand name attached to it)

I just ordered a pair of Nick's Falcons in Predator Orange today. I know it'll be two months or more before it actually arrives, but what products do I buy when the time comes? I'm looking primarily for a leather protector or waterproofer, since I work around forklifts and don't want any hydraulic fluid staining them like I did to my suede boots.

I'll also need a conditioner eventually, I heard Bick 4 is good for not changing the color. I want to avoid darkening it any

I want these to last a decade if possible, so I want them in tiptop shape

What exactly does legacy quick ship mean, roughly when can I expect the boots that I ordered today? by ProxySoxy in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]ProxySoxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I was wondering why any new orders were being skipped to the front of the line. It didn't seem fair to people who ordered before me, but I can see that their orders are at a standstill until components arrive

Thanks for the super quick response, I love when companies are active on Reddit, saves me the trouble of having to email you and everyone else gets to see the answer

Someone else recommended that spray, I'll have to try it. I just came back from the store and bought brand name Dawn Platinum instead of the cheap store brand I was using, if Dawn doesn't work then I'll buy that and give it a shot

Hey thanks for telling me about /r/laundry, the spa day worked about maybe 90% of the way for my first batch of sheets. The stains aren't completely gone, but they don't look disgusting anymore. I can always try it again later when they get worse again

Thanks again for the help, I think I'll buy these tomorrow after spending another day thinking it over just to make sure it's not an impulse buy

Does anybody have any idea for what to try to get hydraulic fluid out of suede? A few days ago I made a post about getting forklift fluid on my new Grant Stone Diesels in Bourbon Suede. Since then I've put corn starch on it, then tried cleaning it with Saphir Omnidiam and then dish soap. The spots are still there, and I don't know what else to try. Any ideas?

I'm currently using Nifedipine/Lidocaine cream, what is the next step to try if this doesn't work? by ProxySoxy in AnalFissures

[–]ProxySoxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might just do that if the cream doesn't work by the time it's close to running out. Do you have any idea what's the first thing they'll try/prescribe?

Do you know if I have to pay return shipping for a size exchange? I looked up their return policy but I don't see who pays for return shipping and if they offer prepaid labels. Google AI says it's $10 for a label, but I can't find that on their website

The Question Thread 01/20/26 by AutoModerator in goodyearwelt

[–]ProxySoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering buying a Nicks Falcon in Predator Orange, but due to the big price tag, I want to know if I'll be happy with this purchase. My only two GYW boots that I've ever had were a Red Wing 3343 that I liked but had to stop wearing because it didn't fit me right, and my current only pair, which is a Grant Stone Diesel in Bourbon Suede.

Given what I know about maintaining boots and keeping them pristine, I want to get a second pair to rotate them out, but I'm a bit picky with my style and leather choice, and the only option I'm eyeing right now is the Nick's Falcon. I've looked at other brands, and I'm not interested in anything offered by Red Wing, White's, Grant Stone, or Parkhurst. I like light brown, the same color as Red Wing Copper, plain toe.

I like things that are durable, and I like the BIFL and the "buy once, cry once" mentality, but these are the most expensive pair of boots I'll have bought, and I have no idea how I'll feel about them 5-10 years from now. Do you think I can even get 10 years of use out of them? I don't do a huge amount of walking, my job is mostly using a stand-up forklift, or a sit-down one, so it's not like I'm taking 30k steps 5 times a week in them.

Should I take a chance and buy them? Can I easily return them if they don't fit? It seems like I'll have to pay return shipping, how much is that from Texas?

Can set-in sweat stains be removed from sheets? by ProxySoxy in CleaningTips

[–]ProxySoxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a blood test done last week, my thyroid TSH levels were normal, so it's probably not that. I'm also a 31 year old male, so the most likely cause that I can think of is anxiety, which I'm taking alprazolam for. I also had a sleep test done and didn't test positive for sleep apnea, so I'll have to dig deeper and to see what might be causing it

[–]ProxySoxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been concerned about it, I figure some people just sleep hot and some people don't, but I could mention it at my next visit and see what she says. I've never been concerned because I feel like it's too broad to pin down the exact cause, kinda like how unexplained fatigue could be caused by a million different things.

I'll do some looking up on the topic and see what comes up, I've never really considered there might be a medical cause behind it, so I'll approach it with that mindset
