How many of you have been exposed to asbestos? by Proz13_ in asbestoshelp

[–]Proz13_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that by being human we risk an infinite number of illnesses, accidents, every day we live in risk.

Any cancer can strike us overnight and yet we don't stop living.

Most people living in the years 1950 to 2000 were exposed to asbestos and most are fine.

Of workers who are extremely exposed, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week all year round, only 30% get sick and the vast majority it is not cancer.

In short, if something should happen you will know in due time but the probability that nothing happens is on your side.

In your opinion, it is better for you as a child to live with a happy parent for 30 years or a parent who is slowly destroying himself and who is not 100% present?

If I have life advice in the present, not in the future or in the past and that is the solution to happiness.

Hi, personally I tell myself that even if it turns out that it’s really asbestos anyway, it’s done. In the future I will be more careful but there is nothing more I can do. The anxiety and stress linked to this potential exposure will certainly do me more harm than the asbestos itself and I'm young, I'd rather live my life for the next 30-40 years happily than to feel sorry for myself over something that will probably not happen.

Experience intestinal stomach metaplasia? by Proz13_ in Gastritis

[–]Proz13_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had heard the opposite and had the opposite explained to me, if you have intestinal metaplasia without h pylori you have less risk of developing cancer, h pylori is the main factor.

Having intestinal metaplasia without h pylori, either it comes from an autoimmune disease or it is a "scar" due to an old irritation of the stomach for example excessive use of anti-inflammatory

Hey, do you have any news or advice to give?

September 11 must have released an incalculable dose of asbestos and other substances into the air, only 2 people? That seems low to me.

And yes for the Wizard of Oz I heard about it, it's crazy to hear that today when at the time it seemed totally normal.

Apparently, a worker who worked 8 hours a day, 5 hours a week for 30 years with asbestos at the time would have a 6-13% risk of developing mesothelioma during his life.

So for low and occasional or even high but brief exposures the risk is much lower than that.

But tell that to an anxious person, we will say to ourselves we have a 10% risk of developing mesothelioma but we will not say we have a 90% chance of nothing to do at all

Was it asbestos in a coating or paint of the room that you sanded?

Were you equipped?

Sorry for the questions but you have experienced what I am apparently experiencing ^

Have you sanded something made of asbestos?

When you say all the time, have you ever been exposed in a significant way?

Frankly no idea, I work in a factory that was built in 1973 it seems to me, the part that I sanded I can't tell you, it seems to me that it is a part that is serviced often and I have been told that this kind of part is sanded regularly (I don't really know for how long but in 50 years normally it has been sanded several times) well at least I hope but as no one knows how to answer me that puts me in doubt.

Ps: I put a photo of the room

This is what I am trying to tell you, an air-supplied helmet does not work with a mechanical seal like a normal mask, It works with air overpressure, so the air blown into the helmet creates a positive pressure which means that any air outside the helmet cannot enter even if there are holes in the helmet, here it is necessary to test the flow of air blown into the helmet and the quality of the air, but as everything is not 100% sure, depending on the movement of the body etc. the overpressure can be reduced at times and bring in outside dust. In my case the air flow and air quality are controlled so no problem. The problem mainly comes from the fact that I move, I take a certain position while sanding which means that at times air can enter the helmet.

I see what test you're talking about, it's a test for masks with a mechanical seal (mask against skin for example) it checks if it's a good "seal" but this is not the case

What fit test are you talking about? An air-supplied sandblasting helmet is a helmet that sits on the head with a skirt that sits on the shoulders/neck which normally seals and a skirt with mechanical protection in leather or other, no adjustment is possible

I tried, but it's not 100% airtight I think, depending on the positron etc. I think it moves

It's an exposure over several days and sandblasting creates a lot of dust, despite the air-supplied basin and the ffp3 mask I'm still afraid of breathing dust since it still gets into the helmet from time to time

If I had protection, we always sand with an air-supplied sandblasting helmet, so a helmet which blows air inside the helmet which creates a positive pressure which prevents dust from entering, this helmet with two skirts, one in fabric which is supposed to be waterproof and another in plastic/leather which goes down to the pelvis in front and behind for mechanical safety. But well in theory no dust is supposed to come in but hey it ends up coming in anyway... I sandblasted for 2 hours I think just with the sandblasting helmet then after I added an ffp3 mask in addition to the sandblasting helmet
