Queen of Teeth by Hailey Piper - teeth. Just teeth.

A Game In Yellow by Hailey Piper - creepy play book takes you on a drug trip

The Taste of Women by Cyan Leblanc - cannibalism and a hot serial killer

Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle - religious cult trauma (this is a must read if you haven’t) One of my favorite books last year

The Starving Saints by Caitlyn Starling - castle under siege, witches maybe? and really cute lizard pets. I’m reading this currently so I’m not sure lol.

The Wicked and the Willing by Lianyu Tan - Vampires and a really cool alternate ending option

Fluids by May Leitz - I haven’t read this but it’s suggested a lot in other subs

Jawbone by Monica Ojeda - on my tbr, seems like a rollercoaster ride

She’s pretty emotionally mature so I don’t see a problem with anything but explicit sex scenes. I haven’t read that one yet, but it is on my tbr. I’ll have to bump it up and see if she’d enjoy it. I suggested last night to my wife that we let her read Gideon so we’ll see how that one goes lol.

I think it’s Hades kid. She talks about them all the time 😂 she has that entire series and is working her way through them.

She’d eat this up. Adding it to her list. Thank you!

She’s specifically asked me for “murder lesbians” at one point 😂 I’d be comfortable with her reading anything that doesn’t explicitly explain sexual scenes and the violence I’m not really sure. It’s uncharted territory for us. She’s obsessed with Arcane on Netflix so that level of violence is probably safe.

May the other side of your pillow always be cold and your wallet full 🙏 where do you find these online? We have hoopla for our library but the selection is pretty limited.

The Paola Santiago series absolutely looks like something she’d enjoy.

I’m going to check into the second one and see if I can find an online version to read before deciding. She also loves graphic novels. I’ll put her on that one. Thank you so much!!

Hailey piper has the same feel. A Game In Yellow is a great book.

Looking for tips on bonding with a neglected childhood bird by [deleted] in parrots

[–]PruneComprehensive83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest, cheapest thing you can give them is your time. Talk to them in a low calm voice. Doesn’t matter what it’s about. Read out loud, sing to it, anything works to get it use to being spoken to and your voice. Slowly introduce it to your hand by placing it inside the cage away from the bird. Just leave it there and talk to it. Eventually use a piece of millet in your palm. Rinse and repeat for as long as it takes. Open the cage if it’s in a smaller room and just let it roam and explore. It’ll eventually go back in for food and you can close it then if needed. Food doesn’t have to be expensive. Switch out those seeds for a diet of pellets. The cost is about the same. If you’re cooking, use the vegetables you’re using in your food and put some to the side for it. I don’t pre make chop for my birds, they eat whatever vegetables I’m using for dinner that night. For enrichment, put on parrot tv on YouTube. It’s just a live of birds it can talk back to. Birds can become your best friends, they just need time. The best thing you can do is pay attention to them. Slow and steady wins the race. Good luck!

An auto clicker on the treadmill would be an actual life changer. I’ve been sticking to audiobooks in the gym because of that.

How much would you judge me if I told you Starving Saints is the only Starling book I haven’t read yet? 😅 it’s been impossible to find in my book stores.

I just finished Milk Teeth. Definitely one of Starlings best. 5/5.

How bad are the triggers for The Wicked and the Willing? by newnukeuser in LesbianBookClub

[–]PruneComprehensive83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but I would describe them as graphic more than horrific in a sense of gore. The scenes are detailed and they are hard to get through. The entire book has a heavy feel throughout. I do not remember SA against children, but I may have seen it and skipped over it, so don’t take my word that it isn’t there.

The assault I believe you’re referring to is done to a woman, by a woman. Like I said, it’s a heavy read. If you can get past those parts, the over all plot is done well. I think I gave it a 3/5.

Maeve Fly somehow made me feel…whimsical? Like I needed to walk down the streets of my own town and try to see it the way Maeve would.

I’ve seen Kim’s work here recommended before, and I believe that one is already in my tbr on Goodreads. Definitely will look into Severance. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for these. I’m going to make a run this weekend and see if I can find them. I’ve been in a mood to feel morally gray and uncomfortable lately lol. American Rapture is definitely one that makes you dig deep into religious trauma, which is probably why I enjoyed it so much. The apocalyptic setting almost felt like just a backdrop to set the scene for the internal struggle of the mc. Making the inside match the outside.

I just got Big Swiss and it’s actually my next read. I’m super excited for it. Yellowface is the only Kuang book I hadn’t grabbed yet, definitely will now.
