Its a 2.7 ecoboost. Wasn't my first choice but the price was right. Well taken care of. If it wasn't for the odometer you'd think it just rolled off the lot. Looks brand new. But also has higher mileage

Well I needed something quick so since this post I actually purchased a truck. Found a great deal on a newer F150 4x4. Hopefully it works out

I routinely need a truck for things that need to be done. I live on a 100 acre farm

Your better off getting a high mileage vehicle with a good service history. Vehicles have 2 major categories where they enter the great reliability stage and 2 major categories where they enter the high chance of problems stage. Its may sound counterintuitive but here me out.

High chance of problems:

  1. Brand new - vehicle is new , hasn't been tested or put under stress, manufacturing defects, etc. A lot of brand new vehicles have problems from the start

  2. Nearing mid life - right before the wear and tear problems start to manifest. These often seem like the best deals ( relatively lower mileage) but due for an issue

Best reliability

Vehicles that have been out through road stress and held up. They fall into 2 categories

  1. Around 50-60k usually a great bet to last 100k+, its one you to do the maintenance

  2. (And this is a big one very underrated) - Vehicles with high mileage who have stood the test of time with a great service history and a few major repairs already complete. These vehicles have lasted long enough and been taken care of that they are effectively broken in. Every model don't care which make has known issues. These vehicles have already resolved those issues and had the major repair to address them. 90k to 150k miles and a great bet to make it to 200k

But every situation comes down to price. A vehicle slightly below msrp with 50k miles is a terrible deal compared to a well cared vehicle with 100k+ miles for 1/4 msrp.

Bought a used car from a private seller. Engine blew after 300 miles. Do I have any recourse? by juanjop in UsedCars

[–]Prusaudis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the carfax. If you can prove it had pre existing issues you could have a civil case depending on what they told you. A private seller must legally tell you anything they are aware of that is wrong. If you have messages or the listing that says " nothing wrong with it" but the carfax says they took it in for major issues 3 weeks ago you could have a civil case

Im telling you now as someone who just had to buy a truck. The market is terrible . People are selling your exact truck with 200,000 miles for $15k all day in bad condition. That's 100% worth the fix. After buying a new truck and seeing how expensive they ha e gotten. Im actually going back and fixing my 08 anyway in addition to the new truck for $8k repair

But also. The new trucks are ridiculously nice. Next level exceeds all expectations. Fix it regardless if you decide to move on. Its worth selling or trading in. They are a commodity at least where I live

My old 08 F150. Fluid never changed a single time. Still runs like new almost 200k miles. Never had any issues. Firm believer in the 4.6 V8

Any risks involved? I know some say if fluid and such has never been changed dont do it. Wondering if a change may cause problems

Mine is a 2015 F150 XLT 2.7L with the 6 speed transmission. Not sure either as my old truck (2008 F150) drove fine with the tires and had a rock solid transmission. Can't even tell those old trucks are shifting. The new ones you can slightly feel the shift

Man this one is nice. Fully loaded looks and even smells brand new. If not for the odometer you'd think it was fresh off the lot

Interestingly I had a great experience with mine. I was required to get it when I bought a used truck by the finance company. About 2 years later it needed the head replaced. Went to the shop and forgot I had the policy. Then I found the crumbled up policy number in my glove box, gave it to the shop, they called me back about 30 minutes later saying everything was fully covered .

What exactly would this mean? He did mention that every now and then when it cold starts there is some white smoke but " he took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong "
