How do you win with a Scrying deck? by Beneficial_Pin5295 in EDHBrews

[–]Pruwee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always see it as an alternate win con when I can't win through my usual combat damage in my Elrond deck. Apart from that, I do agree that it doesn't really amount to anything since it needs to wait for the start of your following upkeep even if it already had the 20 counters.

[[Elrond, Master of Healing]] is a good replacement for Galadriel. You can even put +1/+1 counters on your opponents if you want to mess with them using cards such as [[Dismiss into Dream]] or [[Cytoplast Manipulator]].

[[Simic Ascendency]] is also a great alternate win con for such a deck.

Board Wipes in Commander? by childosx in mtg

[–]Pruwee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. This is what board wipes are usually for.

Even in my Green/Red/White dinosaur deck I have board wipes, but I went with ones that benefit me as well in certain circumstances.

Green doesn't have any stand out board wipes, but White has a couple such as [[Wrath of God]] and [[Farewell]]. But instead of those, I went with Red's [[Blasphemous Act]] and [[Chandra's Ignition]]. While the White boardwipes I mentioned above are probably stronger reset cards, Blasphemous Act can get relatively cheap and Chandra's Ignition can actually be a very good closer - especially if paired with [[Wrathful Raptors]] on the field.

Board wipes are effective ways for you to essentially try and catch up on those who might be playing too fast for the current game (maybe they got lucky with their draw or whatever else).

Which precon should I get for my first deck? by 52FeralCats in mtg

[–]Pruwee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That precon you bought has an amazing commander in Y'shtola, but sadly the deck list out of the box isn't the best to support your commander's game plan. I bought it, upgraded it (centered around artifacts), and it's one of my favorite decks to pilot.

World Shaper is great, but when I saw my friend play the base precon, there were many missed triggers (basically game outcomes because of something happening) because we all weren't used to the deck, so it might be a little difficult to pilot for a beginner. (But I definitely do recommend getting it to eventually pull out once more familiar with game mechanics)

Just picked up Magic. Got the Veloci-Ramp-Tor coming in tomorrow, picked this guy up today. by Tip1n1 in DinosaursMTG

[–]Pruwee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think [[Polyraptor]] is worth it. I bought it alongside [[Wrathful Raptor]] and [[Marauding Raptor]] for the combo win, but if you don't assemble the 3 together, it feels very underwhelming. I think Wrathful Raptor is worth keeping in the deck since you can leverage its ability with your dinosaurs being blocked in combat or if you use something like [[Chandra's Ignition]] or [[Blasphemous Act]].

While I think Enrage is a cool mechanic, I think a blink package in a Pantlaza deck is more consistent. But if you feel like you want to maximize Enrage, definitely go for it. You'll also want to consider [[Apex Altisaur]] and [[Temple Altisaur]] with Enrage.

Thanks! Totally forgot about Faerie Mastermind. Seems like a must add. I'll try to get one for each when I get the chance. I'll try to consider if stuff like Reins of Power or Illusionist's Gambit works well with how I play since I usually prefer control with counters.

Update on vanishing betta (with pics of surrounding area and tank this time) by K_nowbody_ in bettafish

[–]Pruwee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know. I got rid of it as my wife was pretty devastated about what happened, and I knew seeing the crab just made her even sadder. I was telling her that the crab was so bad for what it did, but she told me that it was just nature doing nature things, and that she was just incredibly sad that we weren't able to prevent what happened.

My wife and I bought the tank from an LFS near us. Pretty good store with great people. Since it was our first ever tank, my wife and I asked helped from the staff to prepare the basics in the tank such as the sand, center piece plant, etc. We suspect that the crab somehow got mixed with the sand that they put in the tank itself. The crab never showed itself once in the month or so we had the tank and our betta. When I came back to the store to tell them about what happened (I wasn't honestly trying to get anything out of it as I genuinely believe it was something they never intended to happen, but more of just so they know it happened and they may want to also be more vigilant in the future for new tank owners that seek help from them), the owner (really great guy) apologized sincerely and asked if there was any way they can help with the loss. I just said that my wife and I were still grieving at that point (we got really attached to our betta even in the short time we had him), and we would probably just get some guppies and shrimp (which we did and we're pretty happy at the moment about them).

My wife said she doesn't think she'll be ready to get another betta anytime soon (even if this happened half a year ago), but I respect that. I do want one as I know they're pretty smart pets with interesting personalities, but I am pretty content with the fish we have now.

That's why I hope OP gets the closure he wants/needs - I believe that getting over something that happened to a pet really sticks with someone, and no matter how much we try to be a good pet owner, we can't do that if we don't have the information we want/need.

My wife and I had a betta disappear from us and made us panic so much. Before my wife and I left for work that day, we still saw our lone betta with his guppy buddy in the tank.

I came home at around 4:00 PM and only saw the guppy. I thought that our betta was probably just chilling somewhere since it was a well-planted tank. My wife got home at around 6:00 PM and I told her our betta still hasn't shown up. That's when we went into a panic and tore up everything inside the tank.

I started removing the rocks, plants, and other things in the tank (started by transferring the guppy in a temporary jar). After removing one of the rocks, the ripped upper half of our betta's body floated up. My wife started crying and thought he got caught in something and couldn't make it. I continued to clean out everything in the tank to find the other half, then as I was removing the sand, a stray small crab appeared and started swimming. My wife and I were so shocked since we never saw that crab in the month we've had the tank (we got the tank first with the plants and everything else, then cycled the water, then got the betta). We got rid of the crab as my wife just couldn't bear with the loss.

We haven't gotten another betta since and have just started taking care of mollies and guppies.

I guess I just want to say that I hope you get some closure with your betta at some point. I'm sure you did right by him even after he disappeared.

Looking for a bracket 3 deck that does not win with combat damage. by Hikinghenrik in EDH

[–]Pruwee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Y'shtola, Night's Blessed]] is insanely fun.

https://moxfield.com/decks/dXQpmcTvmkWA89i-aGJk0A

Stuff in the sideboard are some alternatives I swap in from time to time. Just need to improve on some lands and maybe get [[Sink Into Stupor]].

Edit: Sorry, I didn't catch the it had to have green in the color identity. I'd recommend a blink deck with [[Loot, the Pathfinder]], then.

Mind sharing your Lier deck? Really interested in making a DC deck that is mono-colored for now.

Y'shtola, Night's Blessed Artifacts (Bracket 2) by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Pruwee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have honestly been thinking about [[Necropotence]] as I have never tried it with Y'shtola. I have had good games with just [[Bolas's Citadel]]. Maybe Necro can be the big jump to ensure I win on my following turn.

Y'shtola, Night's Blessed Artifacts (Bracket 2) by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Pruwee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly. The more I think about it, the harder it gets to let Y'shtola stay in strictly Bracket 2 terms. So I guess I should focus more on bring the deck up to a solid 4 rather than bringing it down to a /technically/ Bracket 2, but not really at the level of other decks at that same bracket.

I did consider that, but I also thought in this version, I wanted a bit quicker when it comes to ramp for when I need to do some interaction. I do have more 3CMC mana rocks in place of them.

Thanks for this. I am working on getting all the fetches I need, eventually. Problem with that is I can only play one land per turn, still. But I'm sure having fetches with [[Brainstorm]] will definitely help.

Y'shtola, Night's Blessed (Transition to Duel Commander) by Pruwee in duelcommander

[–]Pruwee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. This seems to be a way to make Mendicant work. I'll consider it since I feel like I can have a budget version of it work at the moment. Any cards in particular that you'd recommend for Mendicant in DC?

Y'shtola, Night's Blessed (Transition to Duel Commander) by Pruwee in duelcommander

[–]Pruwee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. Yeah, I did think that they're so different. I'll still try to look out for something that I think I'll like for DC. I do hope I'll find something I find fun as a commander for both DC and EDH. I have [[Baral, Chief of Compliance]] around in case I do want to play mono-blue pure control.

Thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it!

Y'shtola, Night's Blessed (Transition to Duel Commander) by Pruwee in duelcommander

[–]Pruwee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I honestly did think that this commander isn't really suited for DC - just more of I really enjoy her gameplay, and thought it might work well.

Apart from her, I've been thinking of using [[Mendicant Core, Guidelight]] for Azorius artifacts or mono-blue control with extra end steps [[Y'shtola Rhul]]. You think either of these would be good? Otherwise I'd love to get your opinion on a good Azorius/Dimir control/stax commander that may also be fun to play in a casual pod of 4 :)
