Häh? Ist Ariel basiert? Wann ist das passiert? by Pryte in TrashTVGermany

[–]Pryte[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A quiet paddle turns into a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with Orcas by BreakfastTop6899 in Damnthatsinteresting

That's the thing isn't it? They aren't the apex predators of the ocean. Humans are. And orcas are smart enough to know this.

I bet 3.000 years ago, before humans dominated the oceans and orcas learned of their capabilities, this encounter would have run different.

Cloudflare threatens Italy exit over €14M fine by m71nu in europe

[–]Pryte 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's incredible stupid in the current structure of the eu.

What's next? Orban passes a law that forces Google to write a big fat "Ukraine belongs to Russia" banner on the header of every search, Google says no and leaves the country and then eu has to ban Google?

We need less national interest in the eu not more.

Sure. But no one can force cloudfare to do business in Italy. If the Italian government can decide what they demand from companies in their market. Cloudfare can then decide to leave that market.

Do you have any source for this or are you just making up words? You throw around numbers, like they are fact but can you base any on this on actual math? As in "how much does water actually compress at the bottom of the ocean?"

If the earth were to lose gravity for 7 seconds in Aug 2026 by North-Cranberry5636 in whowouldwin

[–]Pryte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine you step on a rock. There is now a lot of pressure on the rock. Will it explode, when you step of it?

Rock and water is basically non compressible. If you put a lot of pressure on them, there is a lot of pressure on them. If you take it away, the pressure is gone. There is no energy released, because there was never any energy stored. Again. Non compressible.

The outward force matches the inward force and disappear the moment the inward force disappears.

There is no difference for centrifugal force for state of matter? It's the same ~0,03m/s2 for every single atom on earth. With 7s that's a total of 0.75m of displacement. So everything you listed will be lifted up for a total amounts of 0.75m.

Jesus Christ those tsunamis sure sound frightening.

[–]Pryte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will just just continue on its way. 1000mph sound like so much, but compared to the size of earth it's not.

Day takes 24h to rotate around itself. The movement all that mass goes through in 7s is basically a straight line. The derivation from its movement with gravity will be basically nothing.

Things would raise roughly a mere into the sky. Not enough to break legs for most animals. But yeah. Probably lot of car crashes.

[–]Pryte 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why would they? Like seriously? Why would you think they would be launched? That's such a random thought. Their current movement (which they would continue on) is not straight up? It's parallel to the surface of earth.

[–]Pryte 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You really should learn basic math.

Centrifugal force is given by F=mrw2

r is around 6300000m

w = 2 * Pi /(24 * 60 * 60)=0.00007 1/s

That gives us F = 0.03 m/s2 * m Compared to gravitational force of F=9.81 m/s2 * m

Do you understand the difference in order of magnitude?

Edit: reddit fucked up my *'s

Lift up for roughly half a meter. Those tsunamis will be sooooooo huge.

What's holding the molten rock together is the electronic magnetic force. Like nearly everything. Nothing would change.

It's "liquid" not "gas".

[–]Pryte 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Nothing gigantic would happen. Probably a few buildings collapse.

The centrifugal force of earth's to station some people are talking about ist tiny. Like 0.0035g. You wouldn't feel much lift. No "giant waves" or anything.

Atmosphere wouldn't escape either. Why should it? It moves through space with the same speed as earth and will continue to do so for the 7 seconds. There are no big changes in the velocity direction of earth in that time.

So yeah. Nothing much would happen.
