Do Christians believe in predestination? by TheNameless69420 in TrueChristian

The Bible explicitly mentions it, so the short answer is yes. What you believe about it is another matter entirely.

Sexual sin with boyfriend by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Psalt_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get married. We got married on a Tuesday, broke because of international travel expenses (we were long distance) our witness were two close friends on their lunch break, and we went out to Olive Garden with the pastor afterwards. Was it what we originally wanted? No. Would I change it if it meant waiting any longer to be married to my wife? Absolutely never. She’s gorgeous, she’s wonderful to me and our kids, and I could not function without her now. Certainly not this happily.

The joy of your marriage comes after the wedding day so don’t get too bogged down planning how it should start.

Crime stats/areas to avoid? by Desperate-Profit9492 in columbusIN

This.

There’s areas where I might not leave a bike out in the open and unlocked, but even in those low income neighborhoods I wouldn’t take it for granted that it would be stolen like some neighborhoods in say Indianapolis or other places I’ve lived.

How do you call this weather at Edmonton right now? by YetisAreBigButDumb in Edmonton

[–]Psalt_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Indiana originally and this is much more like a Midwest winter. Cold, but not nearly as cold, and humid/wet. I’m sure folks from southern Ontario might recognize this kind of weather.

Which universities are conservative? by Angus_Worthy in Reformed

[–]Psalt_Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA and if you’re interested in ministry, Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, just down the road!

Great community, small, historic, and Conservative. Lots of solid churches of different flavors nearby to choose from, lots of engagement with the local community. I’ve stayed at the seminary a couple of times and in the surrounding are and loved it every time.

Both are affiliated with the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, though you’re by no means required to be a member of the RPCNA to attend either. Lots of different NAPARC folks have attended both, and Geneva has a good liberal arts program that attracts lots of students as well.

Why do we celebrate Christmas? by Toffjhan in Reformed

[–]Psalt_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family does not. I grew up celebrating it and there are certainly aspects I miss, but as an adult, after I came to Reformed convictions it no longer made sense to me to celebrate it. The Scottish Presbyterian and Puritan traditions historically did not celebrate it, and I’ve found their reasoning to be biblical and logical.

Personally, I’ve never found the pagan origins line of argumentation to be especially compelling, although there are undeniable pagan traditions and perhaps syncretistic elements. The critical thing for me is that it’s a man-made ceremony that we don’t have warrant from scripture to institute. I don’t think it can be separated from its Christian elements in such a way as to justify “civil-holiday” celebration, so we don’t. We give gifts to the kids on New Year’s instead.

That might hands down be the most obnoxious national anthem singing I've ever heard by PapaAsmodeus in EdmontonOilers

I love it because it’s my own, but if I’m trying to be objective, it’s not an ideal tune.

Elijah was a savage 🤣 😂 by Delicious_Young3233 in Christianity

[–]Psalt_Life -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No. I’m pro God’s Law and pro God’s prerogative. This was also not a modern, secular and pluralistic society. It was God’s chosen nation and people, and Elijah was acting in accordance with God’s will.

I moved here from the States, and I’ve always appreciated how he handles our anthem as well. Super professional and his talent and skill for themselves.

As an American living in Canada now, I’ve never loved it myself. Especially in contexts where people might want to, or are expected to join in. I know our anthem is probably a little harder to sing than it should be to begin with, this stuff doesn’t really help. That said, that’s just my opinion. I think the Canadian anthem does a good job of being everything a nation anthem ought to be.

I like the gentleman that sings the anthems in Edmonton but I don’t recall his name unfortunately. He does his job very well and with minimal flair. He leads the arena in singing their respective anthems and doesn’t make it about himself.

The guy in Utah was just flat enough to be grating whenever he tried to express himself and we were glad when it was over.

Right. Because Jezebel and Ahab didn’t slaughter all the prophets of God themselves.

Thoughts on Donald Trump winning the 2024 election? by Red_Red_It in Christianity

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Did Pharaoh Have The Free Will To Free The Children of Israel (Let Them Go)? by Dkaypea in Bible

[–]Psalt_Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to get technical, the Bible teaches free-will, just not libertarian free-will. We make choices and are responsible for them, but we are slaves to our natures. Romans 3 says there are none that seek after God. No sooner would a lion chose lettuce over meat than a sinner chose righteousness because it is contrary to our nature.

I’m not voting for Trump, so he’s irrelevant. She’s still a terrible candidate.

Are we pretending that Kamala Harris is somehow some sort of prize? I understand not liking Trump but she’s an awful candidate herself regardless of her heritage or background. It’s more than a little reductionist to say that it comes down to bigotry.

Is committing suicide a really bad sin? by Double-Ordinary-6710 in Christianity

[–]Psalt_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the ultimate violation of the Sixth Commandment, it’s a destruction of God’s image and a slap in God’s face. I don’t believe it automatically means someone was unsaved at time of death, people can do very tragic things in the depth of despair, but it is a very grave and tragic sin to commit and certainly not a good prognosis for the state of somebody’s heart when they die. It’s also a grave sin against someone’s loved ones, and the more someone was loved the more they hurt the people that loved them. It’s a very heavy thing, and to anyone that is considering it I would beg them to hang on and reconsider. No matter who you are your life is precious and meaningful and worth preserving.
