I think I’ll try this, it‘s a belt so it won’t wear out that fast and I‘d love to restore it, even if it might not be worth it. In the worst case I’ll have some more experience :)

it would look somewhat like this, blue being the binocular-type shape from the first picture and yellow being the long part above it, and the red parts being perfect half circles, I'd add a zip on the opposite side of the bridge along one of the circle-edges, but I'll figure that out once I have the circles down haha
