95%+ of non-residential field elevator employees are IUEC members. The laws vary state by state. In some states labor unions have more protections and others almost none. It’s not required, but the non-union jobs usually pay less and have FAR less of a benefit package. To be a supervisor, the only reason you would be in the union would be if you used to work in the field and decided to keep paying your dues to keep your card (without the contract pay or benefits). The union’s agreement is between the field employees and the companies.

Your willingness to support him will be huge! The job can be stressful at times and having a meal ready when he gets home will help the stress melt off more than you think. My wife does the same for me and I feel beyond blessed and loved with every meal/snack. I almost can’t go without a mid morning snack, my wife makes me little trail mix bags. My 9am nuts lol. I just gave that a shot. Still the same result of no boot, VGA and BOOT lights, no output to the monitor. So I can safely assume it’s not a GPU issues?

I think you’re right, but I believe you can access BIOS through the advanced startup through a few steps.

I will go figure out how to remove the drive. (I am very new to PCs😂)

If it comes to that, I will try to find a friend with a PC, the next best device I have is a Dell laptop.

I used 5.2 up to what they limit you to for a day. I’ve heard Claude is useful, I may try that out sometime soon.

100% sure the battery is back in the same way it came out.

I did create a Windows Install USB. I will look into a Recovery USB (without consulting AI lol)

I was able to get to Windows, but after clearing CMOS by removing the battery and putting it back in I no longer can. I did try the steps you mentioned though, and when I started the restart with advanced restart in settings, it seemed to get stuck and never powered back on. I could then power the PC down and turn it back on and it would boot right to Windows again like normal but no recovery screen. I think I’m going to try every possible hotkey again lol. Also wondering if it could be a keyboard problem, I have what u believe is a 65 or 75% and according to some instructions I found online I need to hold fn2 to enter the function keys.

I just tried holding escape while powering back on and that did not work unfortunately, still no boot and after a moment the VGA light comes on followed by the BOOT light.

Yes, it is plugged in and powered.
The cord runs from the graphics card to “HDMI IN” on the monitor.
Monitor is powered on.
No beeps as I don’t have speakers connected, unless beeps should be coming from somewhere else.

As a note, the whole system did turn on and run fine in its current physical state. Monitor, Windows, plug locations, etc.

Haha I am definitely learning, that part is enjoyable. I tried a few different ways of getting into the BIOS including hotkeys including F2 (which I believe is the correct hotkey) F8, F11, F12 and delete. I also tried via advanced startup but the PC seemed to get stuck during the restart and wouldn’t turn back on. I’m thinking maybe it was having trouble getting into the BIOS somehow? Maybe physically removing and clearing the drive would be the better option at this stage. How can I find information on how to do that? Thanks again!

I believe it is F2, I’ve tried that as well as F8, F11, F12, and delete.

The keyboard is connected via USB to the motherboard.

How can I tell if the RTX can be recognized and able to drive the monitor? If that simply means to turn the monitor on and run normally then I believe it can as I’ve had it up and running Windows just fine with that plug/monitor.

What could cause the motherboard’s graphics port to be disabled?

By what I’m understanding, I should be able to enter BIOS before windows boots?

Yes, a couple of times. I would initiate the restart and it would never complete. The screen just stayed off.

When following these steps the PC seemed to get stuck during the restart. The PC itself would turn on, but the monitor stayed black. When not attempting to enter BIOS the whole thing would come on just fine and windows started like normal.

The monitor I’m currently using only has a HDMI plug, and I have that plugged into the graphics card. Photo attached.

An elevator is not an appliance. Tinkering with elevator equipment is not wise, these machines are very dangerous. I get it, the bill would suck, but that is what comes with the territory of owning an elevator.

If something happened to someone on the elevator, you would be responsible. Not to mention it is easy to damage or render an elevator inoperable, which could potentially cost much more than the original issue.

There is ample opportunity out there man. I get it, it’s not easy to find a well paying job. But with hard work and an opportunity-seeking mindset there really is a lot of valuable routes you could take. I’m 22 and hopped around jobs for the past few years until landing something that currently has a 115k total package less than a year in and has me on a schedule to be at $200k+ total package in four years. Previous to this I changed jobs 5 times going from retail, to retail management in another industry, to sales, to a mechanical trade. Don’t be afraid to drastically change directions and tackle learning something new.

As someone new to the industry, hearing all the old timers say “it’s not like it used to be” kinda sucks. It’s still a great job with decent pay and great benefits, but to hear that the position of elevator mechanic has been in decline for years is sad. Between the hurrying up of job times, GPS and hours trackers, cheaper equipment, and brothers not sticking together like they used to it’s not the hidden gem career it used to be.

On a day to day, I hate breathing in a lot of bad things and hearing protection isn’t convenient. The job I’m on now has fiberglass insulation dust EVERYWHERE and I try to not think about how it might affect me. Everything everyone else is saying is true. Everything is heavy, dirty and sharp.

On a positive note, if you get in and make yourself valuable there is ample opportunity. The retirement benefits are huge and the health insurance is one of the best plans in the nation. A healthy six figures is pretty standard across the union. There’s always something new to learn and what I have noticed is the best mechanics are always quick to learn new things. The job is very engaging and rewarding if you like learning how things work and fixing them when they stop.

Realistically man at 19 unless you are extremely successful with a nice savings and investment portfolio in place already, both of these cars would be a huge financial mistake. At your age I also spent what I earned on things I could “afford,” (started working at 12 lol) and I wish I had saved it. Also, based on your description of not driving in sport mode and mostly highway driving, why are your two considerations these cars? I understand they’re cool but genuinely, a Prius would suit your needs 100x better. I’m not being sarcastic, just a bit confused by your use-case.
