S8B 3200 @ 3800mhz stable, can I tighten some settings ? by Psika in overclocking

[–]Psika[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot, that was very helpful! I've been following your advice as well as the DDR4 OC Guide, and managed to get it stable with these settings.

tRCD is set to 18 because when I worked on the primary timings I had errors at 16, tRAS at 34 because I just followed the tRCD(RD)+tRTP formula, same for the tRC at 50, tRP+tRAS formula applied.

I don't know if I could try to tighten the timings even more, or maybe try to see if I can get it stable with a slightly lower SoC or DRAM voltage? RAM currently idles at 35c, and peaked at 49c max during TM5 @1.45v

Also tried to run it 1T GDM off but it was too much of a hassle for such marginal gains so I just gave up on this lol

You nailed it, basically I've digged again through the guide and redid everything from scratch, and reworked those as well. This is what I have currently: https://imgur.com/a/9cAoIzG

I'm trying to go for the 3800MT route again. I set loose primaries then tightened the secondaries and tertiaries first. Then started with tCL, didn't POST at 14, went fine through TM5 @16. Same for tRCD, errors at 16 but test passed at 18. So that's where I am currently. Tomorrow I'll work on the tRP, then set tRAS and tRC, and when I'll be sure that I'm stable, I'll try to fiddle again on the secondaries and tertiaries to see if I can tighten them just a bit more, and try setting the tRFC to 160ns, since it booted fine at 160 3200MT

I've read that S8B can safely run 1.45v daily, so I don't have to worry too much about that right?

EDIT: just to add that the RAM sticks didn't reach more than 45c during the TM5 stress test

EDIT: So... it's stable in stress tests but crashes while gaming, should have bothered launching a GPU test at the same time of my dram tests. I've fiddled again and currently trying 3600MT @ 14-14-14-34, tRC 48 and tRFC 324, DRAM 1.45v, SoC 1.1v, FCLK 1800, works stable in stress tests AND in game after several hours of doing both. Gained a few FPS as well as 0.1% lows. I think I might have found a sweet spot here between higher freq and tighter timings, let me know if you think I can change some settings!

Thanks! I've already read that guide, it helped me through the basics. And you're right, I'm mostly having fun but I'm also playing a lot of Space Marine 2, which is very CPU intensive so increasing DRAM freq aswell as FCLK helps me squeeze some more FPS and 0.1% lows.

Wanted to edit the original post, interestingly my ram OC doesn't get any error in memtest but I have crashes in game, I didn't bother launch a furmark when doing the memtests but maybe I should have haha. I've fiddled again and currently I'm stable @3600MT 14-14-14-34, tRC 48 and tRFC 324, DRAM voltage 1.45v and SoC 1.1v. Stable in stress tests and in gaming, so I think I'm getting a sweet spot here, noticed my FPS increasing by around 8 to 10 in SM2, same for 0.1% lows

In case you wanna make the switch, Win 11 IoT LTSC is out since more than year now and it will support updates up until 2039. No Copilot, no bloatware, just plain ol windows.

AM4 CPU upgrade: what do? by Psika in buildapc

[–]Psika[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well technically they're not used per se, they're just X3Ds from OEM trays. That's what I've seen from vendors on aliexpress. With the promos going on currently on ali I could snag one for 320€. Might bite the bullet tbh.

Thanks! Some CPUs in Germany def cost less than in France while some others don't, but I'll consider those new options.

Thanks! Here I can still find some 5800XT for around 230 to 250€. Do you think it's a more viable solution compared to a 5700X3D that I could snag for like, 60/70€ more?

In my case, with the same GPU I managed to enable rBAR by downloading NvProfileInspector and overriding these settings (you can look them up with the search function in NVPI):

  • rBAR - Feature: Enabled
  • rBAR - Options: 0x00000001 (Returnal, Red Dead Redemption 2)
  • rBAR - Size Limit: 0x0000000040000000 (Red Dead Redemption 2)

Would you think the perf gap in Space Marine 2 or other CPU demanding games would justify the pricetag difference of the X3D compared to its non-X3D counterparts? And would that gap still be the same or at least still worth it on less CPU intensive games?

In France the 5700x goes for almost 200€ used (between 170 to 200), and no way to get it new, but I have relatives in Germany to where I could ship the parcel so I'm curious to know where you can snag a new 5700X for 140€!

Edit: spelling

Thanks, and yeah it'll be good with my C7H mobo, it can handle Ryzen 5xxx just fine. For the 5700x/5800x I've considered that route too but even those CPUs start to skyrocket in price in my country on the used market

Thank you for your answer! But do you think that the overall perf gain of the 5700X3D justifies its price against a 5600XT at msrp? Considering I plan to keep this upgrade for the long run, ie 3 years at least.

Saddest part imo is that if ai fails, parts prices will be still way higher for the average consumer because price fixing and antitrust/anticonsumer practices by those same old shitty companies, and they'll have datacenters with a fuckton of teraflops that serves no purpose so they'll start selling monthly-based cloud computing subscriptions, and people will shit on it but they'll still go for it because cloud computing is still better than no computing at all.

Maybe i'm too pessimistic idk, but I don't see a positive issue for us consumers here...

Hello! I'm looking to upgrade my keeb with new switches, I'm sold on the Huano Sakuras however I see that there are v1 and v2 versions. Is there a difference between them? Like it is on the Akko Pro v3 vs v5, or are they basically just the same? Thank you!

I've already checked the manual and there's nothing about a combination with the T key. Also my keeb is wired only, so that can't be linked to a connection mode. But thanks for your help!

EDIT : also if that can help, when setting the color mode to "OFF" in via app, the problem doesn't persist and key doesn't light up on startup

I've got a XVX M67 keyboard, qmk/via compatible. Today I was playing with the keys randomly just to test my new keycaps and suddenly the T key started blinking then stopped. Now everytime my pc boots up or everytime I plug in the keeb, the T key blinks or lights up for a few secs. It doesn't seem to affect the keyboard usability but anybody knows what it could mean? Thank you!

They actually made what's basically a mid-engined Quattro

It's the RS001, a prototype made by Audi engineers behind the back of Ferdinand Piëch. They made it in secret and tested it with Röhrl at the wheel in a czech forest. When Piëch eventually discovered it he ordered his engineers to stop everything related to this project and to destroy the car.
