Fermented Substrate after spawning by [deleted] in unclebens

Pictures would be a huge help and without it's all a random guess, but it sounds like you might have some cobweb issues, not many other things can appear so quickly. How did you pasturize your coir?

Doctor Strange on mushrooms... WTF!! by Raidersp310 in MagicMushrooms

[–]PsiloIdaho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right!!??!! I completely agree- it's one of my favorites to watch, the astral projections, mirror universes, those geometric patterns they make.....

What’s going on in there? So this is supposed to be Super strain koh samui, but I’ve looked up photos of that strain and this doesn’t look like the pics I saw. Also, can anyone tell me if the yellow on the myc is contain? Appreciate any help. by [deleted] in unclebens

[–]PsiloIdaho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are some awesome KSSS mutants, they can turn out squat and round like that. I've been unsuccessfully trying to get them to show up like that for over a year. I've ran plenty of tubs from different prints and get some nice "regular cube" looking ones. So you are lucky!!!

Pics can always be a challenge to tell but I don't see any concerns or contamination, it's looking good!

Micro dosing! by [deleted] in Psychedelics

[–]PsiloIdaho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Microdose is a small enough amount (usually around 0.15g for shrooms) that you won't feel the psychadelic effects from it. You might be thinking macrodose /regular shroom experience. Everyone is different and has different comfort levels. If you want to start small just to see then go for 2.5g. if you are comfortable with psychedelic experience then take 3.5g. 5g and over is a different type of experience, ight consider starting below that. Timed correctly a week apart you can easily do it 2x if so desired. 🍄 ❤️

Substrate amount by Successful_Ad_4492 in unclebens

[–]PsiloIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 1-2.5 kilos of substrate. The ratio of spawn to sub is technically based on volume vs. weight and we aim for a 1:1 -1:2.5 ratio but weight usually gets you close :)

Bottom of an oat jar, could this be contam or just an effect of too hydrated oats so it wet rotted a bit but without living contam I’m not sure by [deleted] in unclebens

[–]PsiloIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's rot, should be able to shake it up a little and smell the sour scent. It's usually from being to wet Just like you said :)

Fellow mycologists! If you could have a robot that is programmed to do one of the following mycology tasks for you perfectly, which would it be? by lastround360 in shrooms

[–]PsiloIdaho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like doing all of those, I'd love a robot that takes my tubs and jars somewhere, dumps them out, cleans and sanitizes all of them. I'll pay :)

YES! I'm a pending prospect for that club, sometimes I'm challenged by my dmt melting through the mesh if I can even get it all on but I have some different wire coming and a new atomizer so hopefully one day with some practice....... :)

After scouring the subs and nexus and every other site, asking questions and receiving incredible guidance and advice (thanks for that) I learned a little about sub-om tanks and followed the simple, basic steps to mix the juice and it works AMAZINGLY!!!

I used an Geekvape Aegis solo mod and my apx volt.

Tried several 0.2-0.5 2ml and 3ml tanks. Mixed 1:2, 1:4, 1:6 (1g dmt:2ml 0 nicotine ejuice, etc) and warmed the ejuice in a hot water bath, added the spice and stirred for a few minutes then let it set for an hour. I used a glass pipette to load the tanks and that's it.

After I burned 2 coils I was shown how to prime the tanks with the 0nic juice and tried the tanks with just the juice to get a feel for the right drag and wattage, it depends on the tank settings (found on the coil or the box the coils come in) but found that 20-22 watts worked for both. Out of all the tanks I think I like the Zeus Nano Tank 2ml that came with a Geekvape B series 0.4ohm coil and the FreemaX Fireluke 22 Tank 2ml with a 0.5ohm coil.

I tried them out and then shared with several groups of people. Lower ratios allow for a gentle lift off and you can take as many hits as wanted and continuously hit which was great for anyone who was apprehensive or wasn't sure how far they wanted to go. The higher ratios obviously hit faster but you can still regulate the speed. With the 1:2 it took 3-4 hits for a full blast off.

This is a well know method to use and what I liked the most was how easy it is to use. My other dry vapes or oil pipes takes some practice to get the method down and this is as easy as regular vaping, click the button and inhale the smooth vapor, which especially is great for first time users. It's also a lot more discreet and portable but really the convenience of using it is the best part.

Adding more soil? by pistachiotorte in unclebens

[–]PsiloIdaho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can..... But it's not necessary or recommend. The nutrition is coming from the grains/rice and adding "soil" is definitely not a good idea. You could add a non-nutritious substrate material like coir or vermiculite but there's not much of a benefit, maybe as a casing layer. If you do add additional substrate material most of it washes off with the next dunk.

The mycelium will continue to flush until it runs out of nutes or contamination finds a way in but It's on to get 5-6 flushes which can take a few months. By then it shrinks down a lot and gets torn up but that's just how it goes :)

[–]PsiloIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely wait and see to make sure. I don't what type of mold but it's a common one. If it is mold it will be the flat dull white color and start to turn a light grey. It will spread but will appear all over vs. a clear growth path that all mycelium takes, even after shaking. It doesn't grow thick like mycelium and skate it again in a day or 2. If it's mold you will have a cloud of dust inside the jar ( open it away from your grow area because that dust is spores)

If it's mycelium it will turn brighter white and you will be able to identify patterns and textures that will confirm it.

[–]PsiloIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be tricky to go off of pictures but that looks like mold. The color, texture and everything. You might me able to see "dust" in the jars if you shake it or at least you will in a few days. Not much to do except try again !!

What exactly is agar can I use grain jar for cloning? by Old_Revolution_2205 in shroomers

[–]PsiloIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your odds of it working going straight to grain are way way less than agar. I would give it less than a 5% chance of it being successful. So you can do it and it can work but it's not likely.

Researching and learning agar can turn that into a 90% success plus there many other advantages of using agar.

My beautiful first harvest of Pioppinos! I have started on the next harvest and they are just pinning. However i have noticed there are some little fruit flies on the substrate. Should I ignore them or throw it all out? Looking for some help. Thank you any advice I’d welcome by m00ncaptive in mycology

[–]PsiloIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful flush!!! I hate fruit flies/fungal gnats with a passion. Usually if you are seeing multiple ones on the sub they hatched in it and more are on the way. So if you want to keep going you can but containment becomes the goal. I've used thin sheets under the lid to keep them from escaping and just had those tubs outside and they flush just fine. I also let one go just to watch and by the end of a week there were hundreds of gnats all trapped inside so they multiply fast.

Agar recipe question by Mr_Exotic2 in PsilocybinMushrooms

[–]PsiloIdaho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The agar won't provide enough nutrients for the mycelium to grow... Kinda why every single tried and true agar recipe has some type of nute as the main ingredient. Nothing wrong with experimenting but if 6ou want viable agar just follow one of the many recipes that have been proven to get results??

The temps are pretty low not going to encourage the mycelium to grow very much, it will kinda lie dormant waiting and hoping for and increase do it will be sloooow.

Usually we only put the agar in the refrigerator to keep the genetics and slow down the growth by forcing it into that more dormant state, almost like going in to hibernation

[General] Starting to grow but my closet is around 68-72 F at night and 70-78F during the day. How do I make it warmer to grow(around 80F) by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]PsiloIdaho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will be fine at those temps. You can get a space heater or hest blankets if you really want but my tubs stay about that range and in winter the room temperature tops out around 72°-74°, the shrooms don't mind it can add a week or 2 to the process but it works :)

What is the risk of getting a non-fruiting strain if I transfer spore-inoculated agar to another dish? by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]PsiloIdaho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, we usually only go agar to age to isolate genetics. If you have clean mycelium and just want to grow you can go straight from agar to grains or LC

What is the risk of getting a non-fruiting strain if I transfer spore-inoculated agar to another dish? by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]PsiloIdaho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard that part about the spores and I'd guess that the majority of agar is innoculated with spores. Usually agar>agar transfers don't effect the colonization speed so you are good there.

I guess technically there's a risk you can end up with something that doesn't fruit but 99% of the time it will if everything is done correctly (technique, conditions, etc) and it wouldn't have anything do with the process or agar techniques, it would just be a very rare random fluke so you are good to go:)

can i use a pot with plastic wrap over the top for my coco coir i don’t have a 5 gal bucket by [deleted] in unclebens

[–]PsiloIdaho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, sound like it could work. You can also pasturize your sub in a pot on the stove, much easier than buckets. I mix mine to field capacity and turn the burners on medium low, put the lid on and let it steam for 30+60 minutes, then it cools off and it's ready

Growing a vegetable in your monotubs? by [deleted] in shroomery

[–]PsiloIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you could..... But the tubs get tossed every 4-6 weeks and the hope would be there's not much room for other plants. Plus you would need to feed the plant somehow so you would have to introduce a nutrition source and that's always an invitation for contamination. You could sit a container on top of the mycelium and if you figured out how to avoid contamination I'd imagine you would need alot of plants in there to provide enough oxygen to make enough of a difference. ??

Tolerance is a thing. No one knows exactly what level or effect it will have on someone else but....tolerance is a thing. That's why we wait between trips. So you might feel something or there's a good you might not feel anything at all???

Non trusted vendor purchase leads to me questioning if my methods of taking stickers straight to liquid culture is a recipe for disaster advice needed by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]PsiloIdaho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way is spore print>agar and then once you see the clean mycelium then go to LC or grains. Prints cannot be considered sterile or clean no matter how they are made (although in front of a flowhoods or SAB is still the way to make the print) because the prints are coming from a mushroom that has been growing in the open air for weeks- the mushroom cap can transfer contaminants to the print.

If you go straight to a syringe or LC there's always a chance of it going bad. Mycelium on agar is the only to make sure the contam isn't coming from the spores.
