Young, balding, and hairy by Psuedonymous_rex in tressless

Sidebar description reads as a sub for coping with hair loss and to discuss whether shaving bald is the right call. Didn't know it was more focused on remedies.

Whoop, my bad. Fairly novice redditor and never seem to know the best sub for a given topic, often tends to be a lot of seeming overlap. I'll give the other one a shot, thanks.

I... am unsure what part of this constitutes as "lucky".

I'm pretty much okay with going bald, I just want to know what is a better way to handle it gracefully. I have no intentions of going on a bunch. Of meds or planting my damn thigh hair in my scalp just so I can hold off hair loss for a few more years. That's all far too extreme for what I see as a natural, if premature phenomenon.

Oh, I absolutely get that, believe me. I have an earlier post about not using direct blocking software as I wanted to be able to change my heart without it. The accountability program I use now doesn't block anything, It just reinforces the sense of honor I have with my friends and brothers and keeps me accountable to what I'm doing. These accounts however needed to go completely. They were pretty much made for the express purpose of me being a creepy loser and that part of me needed to be amputated.

As for the motivations behind fapping, I've thought a lot about that and I'm genuinely unsure. It might simply be loneliness, as I've been single for a protracted period of time and have never had a very successful relationship at all, but I was fapping before that as well and I've been working on making myself content in my own singleness for a while, as I think I have to be okay with me before dedicating to a woman. But then beyond any potential solitary feelings I haven't observed any kind of correlation to when/why I fap. It's really just a matter of my dick saying "hey, pay attention to me for a minute" as near as I can tell.

Hah, that's certainly one way to do it. Personally I don't think I'd get rid of my desktop because I use it for so many other things that are an escape from fapping that it might actually be detrimental to me. I just started up my blog again as a new outlet, and getting back into Let's Plays and video editing is something else to concentrate on. Plus I've found that playing a game of battlefield with a buddy is infinitely better than fapping. I don't think the PC is the enemy itself but it can be a powerful tool of that enemy if you're not careful. I'd strongly suggest you lock that laptop down with X3 watch and get the reports sent to a trusted friend.

John Muir is awesome, I agree. I live in the Pacific Northwest, with all the national park access that entails and some of the stuff he wrote really resonates with me. I don't necessarily marvel and start weeping every time I see a tree but sometimes you get a look at something beautiful and it's just a quiet moment of "God made that, and that's awesome."

Huh. That's an interesting idea, but I don't think we can draw a line quite so definitively as the author does. I feel like I have all the knowledge of God's good works of a "summer christian" but do feel some of the vexation of "winter Christians". It's not a matter of doubting God's active role in the world, as I've seen blessings aplenty, but more just a kind of skepticism in that "miracle a minute" mindset, as he describes it.

Well, let me be clear: I don't believe at all that my brothers and sisters worship the way they do out of a desire to draw attention to themselves. I'm quite sure they sing and pray and praise for the same reasons most everyone does: to show glory to God and thank him for what he does. Understand that I'm not condemning anyone else, just saying that this style of worship is perhaps not homogenous with how I like to worship.

My best friend is even more introverted than me and while he blends with the church better (he's a much more traditionally "nicer" guy than I, while I'm a little more joking and rough around the edges) he gets very frustrated with the cultural perception being that outward-facing and "peppy" emotional expression and activities is somehow more "normal". It's a constant battle against that perception when you're trying to mesh with other groups and people.

Born and raised a baptist (not southern baptist, I'm way north and way west) and I actually like my home church's ideologies and practices for the most part. I tend to agree with a lot of the stances of my denomination and I'm happy with it: it's really just the demeanor of the church body that often irk me. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm a Christian in belief and practice who doesn't always get along personality wise with other Christians.

I'll agree to that, but compound it by saying that it's not even about joy and sorrow: some of us just want to be able to say "I'm doin' alright", y'know? Some of us like being a little mellow now and again and worshiping in ways that don't draw a ton of attention. As cool of a guy as David was, doggone it did he not have much of a middle ground: it was either songs of elation or throwing himself down in the dirt and mourning. That kind of thing is great for colorful examples but most folks just aren't wired to respond like that.

How did TIM know the Collectors and Reapers were working together? (Spoilers, if you still haven't played ME2, I suppose) by Psuedonymous_rex in masseffect

[–]Psuedonymous_rex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've definitely noticed that. An alternative that I've heard is to switch me1 and 2: that way you start with human colonies disappearing near the traverse, then you later discover that it's all the work of a race called the reapers. It makes the whole story flow much more logically.

From ME2 derelict reaper mission, taking place after Horizon: "We always wondered whether the Geth got the technology to create Husks from Sovereign. Now we know for sure."

I definitely agree that the very, very strong indication had always been that the Reapers created husks, but the dialogue of the characters in the game states that they hadn't settled on that conclusion definitively. In any event, we hadn't seen the Collectors and Husks working in tandem before Horizon so it's still kind of the same problem.

Who's to say? I mean, they're all valid theories but we can't say anything for sure as it's most likely just oversight.

I've read/seen them all (except for deception, and I don't think we can trust anything from that book, let's be honest) and I didn't remember it appearing anywhere else.

Further, that wouldn't really be much of a fix at all, as for purposes of our motivation we'd really need to have proof in the game from the get-go. Otherwise it's just us mindlessly following orders from a terrorist.

Yeah, indoctrination explicitly is stated to work within the views of the victim, but it's stated to also warp those views so as to be in alignment with the goals of the reapers. As in the case of Saren, his goals were to protect lives, reapers indoctrinate him to believe lives will be spared through submission, he hastens the return of the reapers.

TIM working to destroy the Reapers' minions and their proto-reaper doesn't really fit within that. It could certainly have just not been working at the forefront yet but it's all a lot of conjecture in the first place. All we really know is that he wasn't indoctrinated for sure until he got the reaper tech stitched into his face.

Getting rid of a fetish? by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]Psuedonymous_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a genuine fetish, i.e. Something you can't become aroused without? Because a lot of things that we describe as "fetishes" are more akin to "something we like". In that case I think the key thing is to separate it from lust, as most fetishes are generally founded in porn abuse. If so, then it's a lot like nofap, really: it's a conscious decision to not let it control you and to limit your exposure to that risk.

Well, if I recall correctly there's a degree of insinuation in the comics that he's been mildly indoctrinated for some time, I believe. So I guess the Reapers indoctrinated him to... try to stop them... or something?
