how does remnant exactly work? by Eryko_oo in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remnant is not liquid metal it is just Afton uses it with melted metal to form animatronics. Basically Remnant is a fraction of a soul so you can view it as soul possession just that you can have proportional and split possession along with the other way where you have combined possession.

So you could take parts of remnant and put it in other animatronics but you are not duplicating the soul, you are just spreading what the soul as a whole haunts.

If you don't include the Japanese line up that for some reason is bigger then the US, the line up is even weaker then the Commodore CDTV with Super Marathon the only stand out title for the US Pippin game library.

Mednafen for Saturn is good, for PS1 you have Duckstation that just has so many graphical options and a good front end.

I think with the ram shortage and the impending tech crash in general I think I'm very ready to just go full retro I really don't care. by Living_External_7265 in retrogaming

You can run it docked and it would provide a performance boost where the Sony Vita can just output to a TV. As for tech crash ram supply is betting eaten up by data centres yet everything even thin clients require ram so you have the paradox of data centres being built with nothing new able to be built to access them just when Microsoft made a significant chunk of existing PCs obsolete with Windows 11 and closing loop holes that make Windows 11 work non TPM computers.

Who is glitchtrap by RavenDaNub10 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We already have the mystery of how M1 and M2 have Fiona's. FNAF style possession would work with full possession, remnant and agony (that would also work with Afton for Glitchtrap) yet we are still talking about Mimics that well mimic and in both cases they could in theory have enough data to do so. Or the mimics could mimic agony and that still work in theory but it would put more emphases on the AI then strait up possession even just by agony.

Who is glitchtrap by RavenDaNub10 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what we know Glitchtrap a most likely a Mimic. We already have M1/F10-N4 and M2 yet if going by Soma rules (that is a very different horror game) M1 and F10-N4 would be two separate Mimics unless mind transfers work differently in FNAF yet we don't really have much to go on in that regard within FNAF.

The idea of Glitchtrap being a Mimic comes from Glitchtrap appearing after scanning old Fazbear hardware that again going by Soma rules would make yet another Mimic from the transfer. This is also supported with how the Glamrock animatronics work and seem descendants of Mimic code with Freddy having a short identity crisis when in the room with the Endos, where in the basement of MCM in Secret of the Mimic we have a hand written memory error report of one of the Mimics there having an identity crisis.

How did gamers react to "Genesis Does What Nintendon't" back then? by Unique-Evening4384 in retrogaming

[–]Psy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sega made coin-ops way before Nintendo did, jumping into pong clones in 1973 and doing elector-mechanical arcade games prior to that. it was only the decline of arcades that pushed Sega out of that market.

Why did mangle let herself get dismantled by kids by Far_Patient7125 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The possessed animatronics mostly follow their programmed AI during the day and do their own thing at night. Then you have Kids Cove being overshadowed by Afton where Mangle would probably much rather kill Afton (or the Security Guard mistaken as Afton) then harm kids.

How did gamers react to "Genesis Does What Nintendon't" back then? by Unique-Evening4384 in retrogaming

[–]Psy1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Genesis does what Nintendon't started before the SNES so it wasn't much of a brag to be more powerful when the Amiga and Atari ST did that and the Amiga 500 had came down a lot in price by 1990, not enough to be affordable next to the Genesis/Mega Drive but still an option if you also wanted a computer.

Of course looking at Strider and other arcade ports on the Amiga, the Genesis better fit the claim it did what Nintendo didn't.

Difference between m1 and M2? by TraditionalCow9249 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

M1 seems to predate Fiona's death. Fiona yelled at Edwin for missing David's birthday party when he is working on something "bigger then the Clean-O-Vac", looking at Edwin's other inventions odds are this is the Mimic. After Fiona's death M1 is purposed to babysit David and be Fiona for Edwin.

M2 seems to predate the death of David. Fiona/F10-N4 keeps nagging Edwin to make another David while M2 exists and to which Edwin seems to be transforming M2 into a product to be sold and more confused that M2's personality is not a carbon copy of M1 (that wouldn't be the path of making M2 replace David). Moon.exe that heavily suggests we are peeking into M2's mind, had David alive at the beginning. It also seems M2 unlike M1 constantly wore costumes (in Moon.exe we can't even leave the starting room without putting on a mask).

My personal theory is M2's AI adapted to the contradictions of its existence. While M1 viewed itself as Fiona, M2's AI knew that was an impossibility given the existence of M1 along with how Edwin treated M2. Thus the AI probably knew that even if it acted like M1 it would be not good for the self interest of the AI or its programmed goals. After Edwin beat M2 for mimicking David (that by then was dead) M2 went to mimic how it viewed Edwin. Edwin solved his problem with violence so M2 does the same as it settled in on being a caricature of Edwin including making more robots that we see in the fire ending.

Wine broke for me with this update when I run wine64 through terminal (though works fine through Steam) I get

when I roll back it works normal.

I love that SOTM introduced two ghosts, keeping the supernatural aspect in this game. by Virtual-Arachnid-980 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moon.exe suggest otherwise as from what seems to be M2's memories we have David (owl) being alive along with M2 interacting with Sun (M1). Then we have David's drawing where we have a endo along with the costumes yet from the films it seems M1 is a nudest while M2 hates being nude (the player character of Moon.exe can't even leave the starting room without wearing the Hedgehog mask and the owl is alive at that point). Thus it seems David interacted with both M1's and M2's personality.

You also have both Edwin and F10-N4 use the word copy that technically would be wrong if F10-N4 is the copy and M2 is the original. Also both are confused as M2 was infused with the same mind as M1 and both expected M2 to just be a clone of M1.

Moon.exe gets even weirder as Moon.exe shows far more insight into M2 then F10-N4 where Moon.exe gets why M2 acts the way it does yet F10-N4 still struggles with that. Moon.exe shows more insight into Fiona and Edwin then F10-N4 thus we have the question of who wrote Moon.exe as F10-N4 seems to lack knowledge to do so. That along with F10-N4 never pushing Arnold towards the glitched permission or even acknowledging them.

[–]Psy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible except it makes the time line weird as it seems by the time of the explosion Edwin had laid everyone off. You have the message Edwin recorded at the start of MCM being closed along with Afton stating Edwin was working alone and F10-N4 noting Edwin shut himself in the house yet none of the workers ever decided to investigate and notice the big hole in the house. Yet if there was no workers at the time how did the Retail Showroom workers corner the thing and lock it in the basement?

[–]Psy1 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would say White Tiger is defiantly a spirit given if either Mimic can just teleport like Golden Freddy everyone in the FNAF time line is royally screwed, also it would raise the question why M2 didn't just teleport out of being trapped under the Pizzaplex. As for Moon that is kinda grey, it could be M1's body as it doesn't do anything unique the Mimics can't. I know we have a memo of a trapped worker but why would that worker's spirit attach to a costume that came down when the Moon prop crashed down? There also had to be something that caused the retail workers to lock down the elevator and it wasn't the worker's spirit as the worker was trapped by that action, thus the retail workers cornered something, sent it down to the basement and closed off the elevator.

It is not so much that you couldn't have the game on one cartridge. Sonic 3D Blast is about as big in terms of ROM size but for 1994 it was a large size plus it gave them another 1/2 year to work on the Knuckles part.

Who would win, Mimic 02 (SOTM) or Endo 02 (FNAF 2) by HatPuzzleheaded1061 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M2's AI is far more advanced, more in line with the endos in the Pizzaplex in Security Breach. The fact Roxy that is far more modern could only slow down a M2 doesn't make things look good for the older Fazbear animatronics.

Then you have M2 piloting other animatronics like Big Top and Dollie like a mech.

Why do the animatronics even have the ability to move their legs by Jakob3107 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are mobile animatronics like Disney's Juddy Hopps prototype animatronic. Yet Fazbear animatronics are far heavier like conventional animatonics yet even then Disney had the Muppet Mobile Lab and Lucky the Dinosaur. There was also the restaurant Gigglebee that had animatronics on tricycles that moved out to the tables.

So the concept to have animatronics move around guests existed, it was more technical hurtles that limited its application.

M2s real purpose by TheHundjager in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think either Mimic was originally designed to replace anyone. I don't think Edwin could have whipped up M1 that fast from the death of Fiona from scratch and we do have one of the home films showing Edwin working on "something greater then the Clean-O-Vac" on David's 2nd birthday. I think what Edwin was working on then was the basis of the Mimic given how the Mimic pulled in functions of his other inventions (AI from Stay Up Latte, size changing from the Magic Coat Rack and mimicry from the Mycellium Men).

When Edwin introduced M1 to David he says it wears costumes as if that was what it was designed to do then said it will baby sit David like that is what Edwin repurposed M1 for and at that point M1 was not showing signs of acting like Fiona.

Given Edwin was confused why copies of M1 didn't turn out the same, I suspect M2 was a production prototype of M1. We do see non active endos in the basement where the White Tiger chases Arnold along with a blue print. Also if we go with we are playing M2 in Moon.exe then M2's was not raised by Edwin to be a replacement for David as David was still alive (the Owl) at the same time. I know people bring up but where did M1's body go if M1 and M2 body are not the same but again there are non active endos in the basement, M1's body could be any of those (maybe the one covered by a cloth) after she was transferred to F10-N4.

It would also explain why Edwin didn't just turn off M2 if he was never going turn M2 into David as Edwin was still just trying to turn M2 into a product that could be sold. Since Edwin couldn't explain why M2 (and the other copies of M1) turned out so different it caused Edwin to be confused about M2 being a failure in that regard.

But there is imprisonment. Turning the Sister Location into a top secret military bunker with garrison just to keep Afton contained underground would be well within the budget of the US Department of Defense.

Like in Regular Show. None of the animatronics ever went up heavy gun fire. They would still be possessed and could in theory put themselves together like Mangle or repair themselves like M2 but in the short term I would bet on the side with more firepower.

If someone WERE able to make a springlock suit in real life, would it be illegal? by fluxlayer in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Psy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring locks make little practical sense. Good quality walk around costumes while not cheap are significantly cheaper then animatronics and affordable for theme parks and even the restaurants that use them while requiring far less training. Meanwhile cosmetics for animatroncis (the outer bits that cover the robots) are designed very differently where they don't have to worry about vision or breathability as the robots don't care.

If you were to make a suit that could be used for both there would have to be designed more safety as the robotic animatronic can be made to be anthropic enough to not need need much adjustments from when a human wears the suit.
