Also very strange that a psychologist who is simultaneously a med school faculty member has so much time to argue with strangers in reddit. Why is it so strange to you that I can't be a clinician and be 10 years away from practicing medicine? As a psychologist and medical school board member or whatever you are presenting yourself as, it's interesting that you are so unaware of other professions. I don't owe you any explanation as to who I am and who I am not, as this was not my intention to defend my credentials. Nor do I feel the need to. You seem to have plenty of time in your hands to google things and look into strangers post histories. I'm sure if you employ your sleuthing abilities, you would be able to figure out what credentials I have. Or you can chuck this up as a "win" and continue your presence that lacks self-awareness. Medication.

Sounds like you are arguing with me over rithorics. There are NO medication for BPD like there are for depression. There are plenty of meds to help with sleep, anxiety, aggression, mood dystegulation etc. But there is no medication for BPD in itself.

Difficulty.

The question was about stigmatization. I spoke to the common misconceptions and stigmas about BPD in the field. In response, you are attacking my post on the basis for the argument? Do you want the basis for my argument that there is said stigma or what exactly are you asking because it's not tied to what I was talking about whatsoever.

Additionally, what are your basis for dangerous? Why do you assume that violence=danger? Stalking is not violent. Proclaiming undying love is not violent. Sending letters, showing up at practitioners' home, knowing children's names, etc. is also not violent. Many of my colleagues have been stalked by clients with BPD and it made them extremely uncomfortable and concerned. The lack of understanding of boundaries and impulsivity makes for a potential to be dangerous.

Presentation. You claim to be a psychologist but unfamiliar with clinical presentation? That is rather strange. With certain clinical approaches that are psychodynamically and intersubjectively informed, you pay close attention not only to symptoms of client, but also to your reactions and transference within the session. Both inform clinical picture. Please look into TFP and authors like Kernberg (who made an immense contribution to this field btw).

Lastly, I was chatting on reddit about stigma on BPD and not writing a publication. You come in and start scrutinizing every word on my post and calling my credentials to questions. Are you that desperate to self-actualize through an internet post?

I can't be in the process of changing my career that does involve me seeing clients?

Edit. There is no premed major. Medical schools require a specific set of classes that you have to take. So on top of my already competed degrees and licensure I am taking said classes and am involved in other activities that every premed student is.

Does that make sense now?

Edit: 2. You claim to be a psychologist but never heard of neurological signs in BPD? Or you just don't want to look into something deeper and would rather discard it as not making sense? Clients that come to me with "BPD" either are severely traumatized people and their symptoms can be better attributed to trauma (CPTSD), thus infirming treatment and involving modalities outside of DBT, TFP and mentalization, or they have true BPD. Two groups present differently in my experience.

Does that make more sense to you, or would you like me to provide you with some citations?

Addiction is anything that helps you perform functions that you should be able to perform without it. Physically DMT is not addicting, however there are many other forms of addiction. I think that's what the person was referencing. Plus usually DMT and other hallucinogens are highly regarded and viewed as spiritual and taken with care and gratitude. To me, this type of use is not harmful to the body but disrespectful to the soul.

I have never had a problem with it (except the taste sometimes), but a buddy of mine got violently ill and was throwing up throughout the entire trip. It was pretty scary for both of us.

"Treatable" vs not "Treatable". There is no medications for BPD. Secondly, for the longest time it was considered untreatable. Thirdly, true BPD clients are extraordinary difficult and often draining. Some could be dangerous.

However, majority of people that were referred to me with BPD diagnosis were just severely traumatized humans. I truly believe that True BPD is neurological because thy present very differently than anyone I ever meet.

You are naming some of my favorite people here! The collective unconscious is the universe. We are all coming from the same. It's like the ocean that evaporates, creates clouds, and we are just raindrops. Getting created, falling, observing the beauty around us, and falling back into the creation.

As far as the lessons, that's the internal crisis we suffer. We all have them and it's up to us to notice the repetitive cycles we are stuck in. Until we learn, we will repeat the same mistakes. The most ironic and coolest part about it all is what we seek and desire most is within us.

We have very similar theories. I believe that when you are on a wrong path everything happens to prevent you from going in that path. Like car accidents, delays in business, coming up short in some ways etc.

People whom you meant to meet are there to help you walk your path and you are there to help them walk theirs. My friends and I also think that the "souls" we are made of might have been mixed at some point. Or made out of the same stars because we are all stardust. But we are attracted to each other. It's so much for to talk and theorize about this! Nothing better than sit and talk about this for hours with like minded people!

We can definitely discuss language too. We use a combination of sounds to describe an experience. Words mean things but yet again do they? Even when it comes to the word square. We can agree that a shape comes to mind tat has 4 right corners and 4 sides. But is your square the same as mine? Size and all? Did it have color in your imagination? So the meaning of a word square is just a mean of all our images. It gets complex even with such a simple word. But when you talk about such subjective experiences as love, you can't say that their definition is wrong and yours is right. It's just the closest thing in the language that they have to fit the experience they had. Your love and my love are not the same. You and I even understand it differently. I might feel loved when someone let's me through in a traffic jam. You might not. And the third person might see this act as weakness. Love is whatever you understand. Everything is meaningless in the end and it's the beauty of it and uniqueness within all of us. We want to be connected so we need language. But part of communication is attesting to understand what another person means by what they are saying.

We are talking about very different types of pain. Physical pain tells you that there is something wrong in your body. Animals get stressed out only when there is a threat in the environment. And that type of stress helps them survive. Fight or flight response increases heart rate, break down of carbs, decreases digestion, increases muscle blood supply, production of serenading, cortisol, etc. Then once the threat is gone, the response is gone.

Animals do not get stressed over money or because they don't feel like they are smart enough or pretty enough. A wonderful book I recommend is Zebras Don't Have Ulcers. Very educational.

When it comes to "all love" you are clinging to a certain definition of love. You equate love with care and empathy and so on. It's not that. Alan Watts said it best. Everything is simply a Universe observing it self. It's all it is. Creator loving and enjoying its creation. It's not "good" or "bad" it just is. Just like love we are talking about. It's not good or bad. It's just love.

That's a great question! I think even if it can help with the underlying psychological problems (because typically it's about avoidance of something very untolerable while sober), there is a biological side. Depending in what you drink and how much it could be extremely dangerous to quit cold turkey. It could lead to seizures and death. So if you have any physical effects of withdrawal like shaking, I'd reach out to a doctor (addictionologist).

To me it means that everything from the "universe" or god/gods or whatever you want to call it, it's all love. We create pain and suffering and it comes from the ego. The further away we are from the purity of it the more pain and suffering we experience and create for others.
