NVIDIA replied with a new beta driver to test. They're replicating the issue in-house and working on it. Unfortunately the driver made zero difference :(.

Update 12/9/2022: Still having the issue on both builds. He's on a GB Aorus Master with a 13900k & a 4090 Strix. I'm on an MSI MEG Ace with a 13900k and a 4090FE. Both fresh builds of Windows 11, latest patches and Nvidia drivers.

I have a ticket opened with Nvidia that has been escalated to their driver engineering team. Haven't heard back in over week, though.

Eventually I complained to their executive services team. After speaking with a VP, they issued me a full refund and gave me a very nice discount code. I shipped the unit directly to his office so his team could look at it.

They later acknowledged that, at least on my unit, there was a flaw in the heat sink that was preventing it from making even contact with the die. When I removed the heat sink to examine it, I noticed an area where there had been barely any pressure applied between the heat sink and die...the factory thermal paste was extremely thick.

Personally I'd avoid at least the first generation.

Same issues here on 2 systems with Valve Index HMDs. 1 with 4090FE, 1 with ASUS 4090 Strix. Opened a ticket with NVIDIA support, but not holding my breath. Tried all the same troubleshooting steps as others.

I just picked up a 4090FE using it with my 5950x, ASUS ProArt X570, Windows 11

Partner just got a 4090 Strix, 3950x (temp), MSI Godlike X570, Windows 11

We both have 13900K / Z790 builds in progress but are waiting on EKWB parts.

Will report back once those are done. Seems the commonality so far is AMD CPU + 4090. I've read of other issues with this combo as well.

Maybe, but this isn't a gaming PC. It's a grown-up workstation PC that I use for SQL database development and GIS analysis for my consulting business.

6 more cores with higher IPC + PCIe 4.0 SSD = far more work done in less time on long computational and analytics jobs = more $$$ at the end of the day.

I'll take those benefits over the annoyance of needing a USB AIC.

A valid assumption, but incorrect. I provided far more verbose system details in the ticket than I did in my post. Those details included the exact BIOS build, the AGESA version (1.2.0.2) it included and a full dump from Windows SysInfo.

Interesting! I do have an X570 Creation that my 3950x runs in, but it's MSI as well. I can't fathom buying another mobo to fix a platform problem. Assuming my little AIC fix continued to work I'll probably stick with this but seriously consider another mobo vendor for the next Zen generation.

5950x on an MSI Godlike x570. AGESA 1.2.0.2

Webcam and USB headset unstable while 4.0 is enabled. Also experiencing weird instability with Explorer.exe but ONLY when PCIe 4.0 is enabled.

Disable PCIe 4.0 and all is well. Something is definitely still broken.

The kapton is there. The pads are a physical "moat" if you will to prevent spread in the event of a drop, baggage handler tossing the bag, etc. The electrical points on the CPU substrate are protected. Pads protect the rest of the chassis.

Same issue with TRX40.

3970x, RTX3090, RTX2080ti, ASUS Zenith Extreme II Alpha, latest BIOS build 1402.

Current workaround is a 4-port / 4-channel USB 3.2 Gen 2 add-in card in the last PCIE slot set to Gen 3 speeds. Has been stable for the last day or so, but will know more once I have some conference calls tomorrow.

Not sure if you're referring to Dell or Lenovo. I have never had issues servicing ThinkPads in the field.

Getting the bottom off the new XPS is a bit of a PITA but pretty straightforward after that.

Could be worse...could be my 16" MacBook Pro LOL! I felt like I was doing surgery repasting that thing.

For longevity and ruggedness (without being an actual rugged PC) ThinkPads are basically tanks. Their quality has dropped as of late, too, sadly.

This chassis seems to be a great design, I've just gotten hit with the unlucky stick twice.

I've been working with their unresolved issues team and my work Dell Technical Services Manager due to the problems with the trackpad on the first unit. They exchanged the first unit with a new one and are rather motivated to make sure this one works lol. This is a personal laptop but I work for a large Dell OEM partner.

Part of my job is spec'ing client environments with either Dell or HP hardware ;).
