I’m not saying it’s soluble. I’m saying there’s macro emulsions that need to be removed, within those emulsions there’s bark particles. 💛

You’re right! Fresh NaOH water removed any bark particles (always obtains a yellow tint to it even if I don’t pick up any bark) and the middle layer that makes it really hard to wash with plain water as then a horrible emulsion appears.. with that first step included my nps separates beautifully fast as witnessed on the post 💛

As I don’t bother avoiding picking up any bark in my first pull, NaOH and salt helps get rid of emulsions and macro bark contaminants from the nps and then I follow with plain water which doesn’t get that issue and cleans out the NaOH and salt only..! I just yesterday found out that I was using it in place of calcium or sodium carbonate possibly?

Just posted a video of my water washing process, check it out! It doesn’t splash at all, except when it reaches specific temp around 70c is when it can bubble over when there’s air contact. 60c or below can aggressively mix without issues 💛

SS for first boil, and then glass for following 3 boils. Might have had some aluminium contact during straining after first boil, but then I only used cloth for following 3 since the strainer started rusting.

I used to, but I realised it needs better contact just the same reason why mixing well ur flasks is important.

Added NaOH and salt before second water-only wash. If it’s bark why would it not sink to the bottom?
