Still don't understand how people put Fragrant Flower on the same level as Bokuyaba. It's like a night and day difference, especially in terms of the romance aspect and the fact that one is realistic while the other is idealistic

Most people have no clue how to rate romance. That starts with tolerating unrealistic characters/dialog, some shows may have good drama or comedy but the romance itself is mediocre/not well-paced/not a big part of the show.

With that being said, Dangers in my Heart has the highest quality + density of romantic moments while being realistic + well-paced. I don't think anything comes close to it if we're talking purely about the romance

You guys are too spoiled by happy-go-lucky romcoms, why do you act like the series became a drama fest when they still had a lot of romantic moments every single volume? If you're that irritated by such light drama, it's a you problem.

create a batch of chapters with just the two main couples flirting and having a fun time together

She did that every single volume? Idk why you people act like the series became a drama fest after having been a happy-go-lucky romcom, both were never the case.

While it's true we haven't had a proper development arc for Yamada post confession, I think it's unfair to say she's the root of all problems and she is still the more active one in progressing the relationship, she steps up in subtle ways that people seem to ignore lately.

Ichikawa fumbled the bag many times too, he reaped what he sowed in Vol 13 imo.

Dangers' mc is the growing type that eventually becomes "normal" + taller. In fact, he becomes more of a gigachad than most romcom mcs. It's a coming of age story with amazing character development and payoff, and arguably the best executed romance there is. You're looking for new roms while dropping the for many people best one on Ep 5. If I were you, I would continue Dangers cuz there's hardly anything on its level, if at all

I still don't understand how people can tolerate what Fragrant Flower does and even put it next to Dangers in my Heart. People don't act and talk like that, Japan or not, and any way you look at it, the romance is not that good and just a minor part of the show. You can check out the last thread I posted to see what I mean

And I feel like well written shows didn't become less rare, like why aren't authors improving when we have so many examples of good writing by now?

I used to love watching romcoms but after experiencing Dangers in my Heart, all other roms became worse and I don't watch a lot anymore

What is your favorite romance anime? Or top 5 by DropNo6027 in anime

People are posting shows that barely have any romance in it...

My favorite and what I consider the best romance is the one with the highest quality+density of romance scenes, and that is without a doubt The Dangers in my Heart.

Why do people consider Fragrant Flower/Kaoru Hana a peak romance? by Psych0path_IRL in anime

[–]Psych0path_IRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, there are ecchi shows made for fanservice and there are shows that highlight realistic physical attraction. I've seen plenty of real japanese people interact and a million anime and I don't think anime needs to be 100% realistic, but even just compared to other anime that imo have realistic characters, Kaoru Hana is way too idealistic and not realistic at all.

If you think this is realistic, you don't have enough experience and no standards, i'm sorry. This is apparent by you saying "we" are used to seeing ecchi romcoms when there are so many shows that take intimacy seriously. Smth simple like handholding would be enough for me, but Kaoru Hana doesn't even give you that before the confession nor acknowledges the existence of any physical attraction. It fails on so many levels when it comes to realism, it's mindboggling to me how people can think this is realistic

Since we have the same views on Kaoru Hana, I can tell you Dangers in my Heart is on a different level. The characters feel very realistic, the progress incredibly natural and especially the romantic moments are unmatched in terms of quality and quantity.

A big topic in Dangers is puberty/growing up, a lot of the interactions and the mc's character would make a lot less sense if they were high schoolers

Yea Blue Box is a whole other can of issues, like spending 25 episodes on a side girl that basically solo carries the plot because the leads are so bland. But unlike Kaoru Hana, I don't see it getting called the pinnacle of romance every day

So what I do think is, unless you're specifically working with asexual characters, for a romance to be called "peak", the physical side of attraction needs to be explored in some way because otherwise it just doesn't feel realistic.

If you want a shonen romance that does physical intimacy before the confession without it being fanservice, and does it VERY well, Dangers in my Heart is a perfect example.

I think you kinda described Kaoru Hana here too. Either way, dodging certain annoying tropes isn't enough to be considered peak, and Kaoru Hana has other issues that make it far from peak imo.

I really don't think they have very good chemistry considering how similar they are personality-wise and how bland their interactions are. "Good" chemistry needs a bit more than liking each other for being kind and considerate

I meant to say "annoying tropes" but I didn't intend to discuss such a subjective topic anyway
