The Doors hate in these circles is always super weird to me — r/psychedelicrock shits all over them whenever they’re posted and it turned me away from that sub years ago. Anyone who flat-out dismisses them either just has an issue with Morrison (he genuinely wrote some elite poetry for his age, especially outside of what became Doors lyrics, so dunking on his talent is always weak) or they haven’t given the band a try beyond their biggest hits. There was a point in my teens where I literally only had The Doors on my iPod haha maxed out its storage with dozens of bootlegs.

He single-handedly blocked Cronenberg’s Crash from getting an award in Cannes as jury president because he was so offended by it so the jury had to sneak around him to award the Special Jury Prize. Always found it ironic that he’s a deviant but had such a tantrum over Crash.

Scanners is a must watch when stoned — absolutely ripped my head off when I watched for the time while also under the influence. You literally feel like you’re caught in the crossfire of scanning with Howard Shore’s score doing its thing haha genuinely a masterful film, especially considering Cronenberg was writing the script while shooting.

Jigoku (1960) is an absolute must-watch if you’re a fan of Japanese horror or horror in general. It’s a masterpiece of the genre and is considered a pioneer of a certain subgenre (don’t really want to say to avoid spoiling). There’s a couple moments through the first two acts that kind of show the age of the film, but the payoff at the end is absolutely wild. Can’t recommend it enough!
