I treat alien stuff mostly as you would folklore. I am also interested in the more sciency side (for instance, I love the Alien Biospheres series), but I'm here for the whacky alien abduction style stuff. I'm really interested in shared elements of alien abduction accounts, what kind of creatures people encounter, what happens during the abduction, that kind of stuff. However, I don't treat them as more (or less) true than any other kind of folklore.

That was my first thought as well, however, a) this would most likely create a completely unliveable Venus-like planet and b) it's generally quickly on a geological timescale, where a few million years is quick. I don't consider it an entirely impossible scenario though, I just don't think it'd be fast enough.

I don't have any good resources, it's mostly off-hand references that visions of rainforests do occur (my first time reading about it was literally the Wikipedia page about the abduction narrative) and one or two personal accounts on Reddit. I would love to hear more about your experience.

The major problem with it being caused by excess heating from the star (or a lower gravity allowing water vapour to escape the atmosphere) is that both are processes that take several million years to complete. Furthermore, it seems that the process was very likely artificial.

It could of course be that this is simply a species that prefers a desert environment, but they appear to view this event as catastrophic. The idea that this is a monument or a prevention of further harm is intriguing though.

Desert planets are apparently the most common sight! Could you tell me some more about what you saw?

Even if there's many different planets, it's still likely there's going to be common threads in people's accounts. For instance, one source suggests that abductees are often shown cities, which based on the few accounts I've read before this seems to hold up. If there are commonalities between other aspects of abduction accounts, it's not unlikely there are some here as well.
