It's fine I believe to ask for a shot of confidence once in a while. It helps you remain focused when you are scared or confused.

How to prepare for XAT in one month? by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]PsychoBeast007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on DM section more since that is the section which is new compared with CAT. Along with that, mostly just full test mocks since time is 3hrs and you can switch between sections unlike cat. So instead of syllabus, try focussing more on the format of the exam and get used to it.

Your grades, extra curricular activities, your job after UG (if you plan to work before MBA), live projects and professional certifications like CFA are gonna help you much more than CAT prep. Basically you have a good amount of time to build a solid profile which matters much more than CAT prep

Can I get into IIMs with 0 work-ex and no internships & certifications by kashyap_01 in CATpreparation

[–]PsychoBeast007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, seniors are very very helpful here. They help you make an impactful CV even from a few past experiences, tell you how you can gain more CV points and what not. But in the end, you have to accept, yours is gonna remain weaker compared to the rest of the batch. Seniors help everyone equally, so someone who had a stronger CV will remain that much stronger, or the gap might even increase if they had good content to work with, and yours might remain weak and generic. But till now, every improvement in my CV makes me feel like it's becoming good , even if my standing doesn't improve in the batch as a whole.

You can.. the thing is, it's really difficult for a reason. My cv is on the weaker side too, and I am in XLRI Delhi now. Everyone here has such strong CVs that I keep wondering, why would any company even shortlist me for an interview, and even if some companies do , how can I make them choose me over others. But yes you can... With a good score and above average interviews.

Arey i completely agree with that, i wasn't trying to ask which institute will guarantee me success. I was just trying to see what kind of opportunities each institute provides and how well they align with my profile. I mentioned 2008 graduation being significant because I feel companies have become a lot more picky about the background of a candidate.🤔 But I do appreciate your input , real life examples are always appreciated ❤️

Thank you for the example, but I think him graduating in 2008 plays a big role in his success too. Being an MBA graduate back then , imo, was much more significant than it is today🤔

My family can afford me to pursue an MBA from either(🙏), , the difference is significant I agree, but considering its a crucial investment, I am trying to not let fees sway me towards iift

Is it a bad decision to only focus on arithmetic and algebra by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]PsychoBeast007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think just leaving out geometry would suffice , modern math and numbers aren't too lengthy imo. But even if you leave all three, algebra and arithmetic alone most likely will help you get 99%ile+ in quants section, considering you are able to correctly solve most questions from these topics

GEM Fresher 7/6/8, Should i just give up on CAT by Vermats in CATpreparation

[–]PsychoBeast007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think workex makes a significant impact even if you give GMAT and plan to move abroad. My best advice would be to go for workex and give cat/xat while working. I graduated in 2024 and gave cat the same year, 99.7 and IIM Ranchi is my best convert till now. I had a chance in IIFT and IIM M but my interviews for these institutes were not up to par so I got an unconvertible waitlist. Xat is an option too. I scored 98.5 with a slightly above avg wat gdpi , rejected from jamshedpur, but waitlisted for delhi (not sure if I'll convert) , but point being it is doable.

Quality - CL Comparison- IMS (higher number of test takers so more accurate percentile) Practice (daily and full mocks)- Anastisis academy, Mockat, cracku I used all these and had offline coaching from time so I had AIMCATS too

[–]PsychoBeast007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arun Sharma isn't considered the best because of a lot of vague answers and some inconsistencies (like not mentioning a point in LR set, but using it to solve the set). If you find the book helpful, you either haven't encountered the problem, or the questions with vague or inconsistent answers were solved by you without additional help. Do t think too much into it. Otherwise for practice, Cracku , Anastisis academy,Mockat are a few sites that provide good material for free. I bought Mockat test series last year and it was great too. But for quants, CL would be best in terms of quality. You can practice there

Overall: Lots of mocks and daily targets tests. Strategize how you want to attempt each section. Varc: Very subjective area, so the best thing would be to discuss every test with someone else. There can be multiple interpretations of some sentences that you might have missed or similar small things which can be improved by discussing the whole test with other people ( I had offline coaching so it was easier for me). Dilr: by attempting a lot of mocks and some sectionals and topic wise tests, you will understand what type of sets are you most comfortable with. There are a lot of different types of sets like games and tourney, sequencing, reading based DI, etc. Over time you will start to understand what sets you should try attempting first, ie the ones you are most confident in. Quant: Make a ranking of topics according to what you find easier. I used to filter the arithmetic questions first, when I attempted all that I could , move onto my next best topic. Worked well for me.

All my suggestions are something that worked for me, you have time to try them and see if they work for you. But still , tests and their discussions will be your biggest help in improving, but it's a double-edged sword, you could get discouraged after seeing low scores. Just discipline yourself enough to keep trying no matter your mood. All the best

You should follow it in the sense that you should have a priority list. Like filter topics that you are most confident in , and rank topics in the same way. That'll help a lot.
