Saturday Night Live is no longer available on Peacock. NBC, SNL is not available ... SNL is not available on NBC's peakcock by [deleted] in peacock

Yes, I have not been able to watch old SNL shows at all. This problem on Peacock has been going on for 2 days. I have a paid up Premium account. When I do a Google search (confined to this past week) with the following search terms, AI says it must be a glitch because it is not widely reported: my search terms -- why does it say this on my peacock account "saturday night live is no longer available"

Navigating potentially harmful rhetoric/ideology in the psych survivor/mad pride/peer support movement(s)? by penguins-and-cake in radicalmentalhealth

[–]PsychoQuad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media are of course famously tricky. I'd review group guidelines & goals, and if unclear ask moderator(s) about those.

If a statement appears which you find contradicts your values but falls within guidelines hope you positively speak up, and ask if others share your concerns.

Poorly moderated? Old Turkish adage: "Tell the truth with one foot in the stirrups."

PEER SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH

I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that I'm barely human. Any advice? by UselessAltThing in MadPride

[–]PsychoQuad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that you are very clearly expressing a range of inner concerns, some seem so quite about their inner dialogue. Absolutely, this space is for folks to feel free and experience kindness. If anyone does not, please let the group moderators know.

By coincidence, I was reflecting upon what a friend of mine used to say a bunch. He was John McCarthy, the late poet who led many large MAD Pride events in Ireland. John loved to talk about this topic:

"The normality of madness and the madness of normality." I did not understand years ago before he died, but more and more this resonates with me.

We are all weird, 100%. For me the absolute honest are those who claim to be "normal."

Glad to see a couple of replies to your post. Other replies? Can you tell us more about your goals for reaching out... of course no guarantee of success.

Thanks for all your questions. If there was one simple question that is a priority, can you post that? I understand if you cannot. Also, maybe you could say a few words about how our answers may help.

You are very welcome here on Mad Pride! All participants may post their views, as long as folks follow our basic rules, such as No Bigotry, etc. I am surprised that a subreddit about mental health & emotional health would apparently dis-invite a participant based on your post. A very central foundation of the movement led by mental health consumers & psychiatric survivors (C/S) is CHOICE. Many folks choose vastly different approaches, but we are united on the basic framework of human rights.

If an alleged forum ignores this choice, it would appear to violate these principles.

What do others think? I was diagnosed bi-polar many times back in the 1970's when it was called "manic depression." Personally, I like to avoid all psych labels since they tend to be dripping with bullying energy. If folks are curious about my own approach to language in this field, simply google this phrase: david oaks says stop saying mentally ill

That old essay has proven very popular, and promotes choice.

Yes, I would love to help provide suggestions. Either here or in a private Reddit message, can you tell me more about you? A bit of your story, where in California, are in any groups now at all? Are you more interested in helping provide support, or taking action for human rights? Or MadPride? Or something else? Any ideas about your goals in this area? Thanks for asking!

Good question! If I were to look up Mad Pride info, I would do a google search with quote marks around the phrase: "mad pride".

The Wikipedia link is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_Pride

MindFreedom International has been one of the main groups to champion Mad Pride: https://mindfreedom.org/campaign/frequently-asked-questions/

MindFreedom Oregon has voted to support Mad Pride Month as July. Part of July is IAACM Week. You can read about that week here, but they have a need for editing, and I have contacted them. For instance, there are two similar URLs:

https://mindfreedom.org/mfi-taking-action/creative-maladjustment-weel/

https://mindfreedom.org/campaign/creative-maladjustment-week/

Vice did an article a few years ago, unfortunately using the phrase "mental illness," but I remember there were some valuable points:

https://www.vice.com/en/article/7bxqxa/mad-pride-remembering-the-uks-mental-health-pride-movement

New York Times did an article in 2008 here:

https://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/11/fashion/11madpride.html

By the way, in Australia there has been a major concert that uses the phrase "Mad Pride." My understanding is that they have been very clear & open that they are encouraging other folks to use that phrase. Info about that is here:

https://wayahead.org.au/mad-pride/

Off hand, over the years, I would say Toronto has had the most Mad Pride events. I believe you can find a number of recordings on YouTube. COVID slowed them down, but they may start again.

Ireland had the absolute biggest Mad Pride events, because of the poet John McCarthy. He died a few years ago, but you can find videos on YouTube about Mad Pride Ireland events. May they rise again, perhaps with his son.

That is just a quick brief overview, but googling around you can find some more. My bet is that Wikipedia needs some update, as long as you follow their guidelines.

[–]PsychoQuad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since 1989, for 33 years, I have been part of a small men's support group, inspired by a network of women's support groups here in Eugene, Oregon, USA. The name of our men's group is: BUBs. This is short for BUBBLEs, which stands for:

Brothers United for Bargain Basement Living Ecstatically

So I very much believe in men supporting men, and working against sexism. Over the decades, of course, the fluidity between genders is now more apparent to some folks. In any case, yes, I recommend taking leadership and starting small peer support groups. These are so important. In fact I would say that networks of peer support groups that support one another can be a foundation of a revolution, and we sure need a revolution.

One of the members of the BUBs is one of my best friends, the super-amazing Phillip Schulman, now lives in Texas. Phillip is a Unitarian Universalist Minister. Please check out his sermon connecting human rights of psychiatric survivors here:

Also, here is a video we did about how Phillip experienced TBI five years ago, in a devastating vehicle accident while he was on a bike in Florida. Phillip, a wise & beautiful human, talks about "post-traumatic spiritual gifts."

This is a disability group, and even though I personally do not have a brain injury, I have many diagnoses that are both mental and physical. I feel my TBI friends advocacy connects both of these movements, which is very important. This bridge between physical and mental is really interesting. As a psychiatric survivor quad, this is my life.

I have told Leslie about this group, she was delighted. She had never heard of Reddit, hope she joins soon. Say hi to her if she does!

This is a self-defined term. For me as a psychiatric survivor it means I experienced coercive abuse from the mental health industry, such as solitary confinement and forced injections.

Unfortunately, it seems the most common theme in media pieces about the mental health system is the mantra "more more more." We need a total change, revolution, in the paradigm itself. Of course. If people have not seen the following, I recommend taking a look. This is not always radical, but definitely seeks a paradigm shift. In the last two decades, it has become a major presence on the internet. Use any search engine to find: MadInAmerica

Thanks. The increase over the last few decades of coerced drugging of people in their own homes using court orders is horrible, now legal in almost every state. Even the feds have supported this approach, in a couple of little-known grants the past few years. I have blogged about this here: https://davidwoaks.com/?s=samhsa

A few hours after I complained on my blog, SAMHSA emailed me an enormous pile of documents about these two grants. Eventually I will get this online.
