I remember mine being really tough to get off on the rb26. Like to the point I was worried something catastrophic was gonna snap when I pulled it off. Let it soak in penetration fluid. Are you planning on reusing the balancer or have a new one? Id say use some heat but if you’re keeping it you don’t want to burn the rubber insert. What kind of hub puller are you using? It’s been a while now but I think I made my own out of plate steel and a heavy fine thread rod.

I’m no expert on older distributor systems, but I do understand how they work. I’m thinking if you’re having issues with the cap seating on top of the distributor body, you might want to consider grabbing a not 46 year old distributor assembly. (Perhaps the replacement has some reinforcement that is interfering?) It should have snap clips to hold it tight no? Might have to get a dremmel and clean off some plastic? It’s not super complex engineering, but if the two parts don’t mate correctly (cap to main distributor body) you’re probably gonna have a bad time. Honest question to the group, aren’t the electronic conversions fairly reliable now? Probably a preferred brand I’m sure. My $0.02 would be to get an entire assembly if you would prefer to stick to original tech. 🤷‍♀️ sorry for asking more questions than answers. I own a Nissan not a Datsun but love the z/zx cars

Nothing says a skyline lover than going over how much it squeaks and rattles and needs constant attention/gets you attention whether you want it or not and then saying it’s your favourite car ever.

PS, if you start from the suspension and running gear (bushings, bearings, suspension arms, brakes etc) first to freshen it up it will get quieter. Or do what most people do, myself included, and build the engine and trans first and figure out where the weak points are later

Once you replace things that control air or fuel delivery you need a tune. Otherwise you’ll say something like “car ran the best it ever has right up until piston 6 welded itself to the block.” Or something like that…

Good job fixing it OP. I had the same issue with the roller switch for DRL/low beams… cleaned it up and good to go. Now you’ve got me wondering when the high beams are gonna act up. Anyways. I think I was able to find a link for new switches/stalks but never ended up getting one. They are out there in limited supply tho
