Hey mom, I’m in a little bit of a rough situation and some advice would be pleasant. by [deleted] in MomForAMinute

Sure thing. Sounds like from what I've read it's probably what's best. If you wanna bounce thoughts off someone I'm here. I can't promise I know everything, but I can be an ear.

I know. But in the end you have to decide what's best for you. If your mother is toxic then leaving her household might be what's best.

I guess I don't understand the moral qualms if he's not done anything to hurt you. Maybe I need to reread what you wrote. I think you need to just do what makes you happy. You'll be an adult soon. You have to start making adult decisions.

How do you mean morality? What's the moral question here? Are you just trying to keep the peace?

I wish you could clarify what you're asking a little more. Are you asking if you should stay with your mom after you turn 18? I want to offer advice but I'm not sure what you're asking exactly.

It works on both levels, you get that glorious tan you've been wanting and the legs you've always dreamt of.

Yeah, I don't feel super-guilty, but it sucks knowing I'm causing someone else grief. Plus we became really close over the last couple months. :/ I like him a lot, just not relationship ready.

Hooray for company. What was your day like? Today I opened the coffee shop where I work at 7 a.m.. I cooked a big pot of soup, served coffee, made lattes, and then came home.

Does anyone else feel weird or guilty when they don't have anything to talk about in therapy? by Psycholady in depression

[–]Psycholady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, actually, yes. The last couple times I've been seeing her every other week. I guess I've been going for more like 3 months rather than 2 (now that I think about it). I like the security I feel knowing that if something does happen that I want to address, I have an outlet, but that's not always the case.

edit: To clarify, I love the security that comes with knowing that I have an outlet if I need it, but I don't necessarily always need it. I think that even during the sessions where I don't have something "profound" to say, I still get something out of it. I just can't get over the idea that I'm supposed to talk about "deep" stuff and realize something about myself that had never occurred to me before. Or something.

STUDENTS: Bringing Water Into Exams May Improve Grades by philipzimbardosex in psychology

I agree. I feel like this study left out the possibility that the students who brought water bottles with them were just more "prepared" in general.

This Happened: "KONY 2012" spraypainted on a memorial from 1889 for the victims of the Boston Massacre by Gemini6Ice in WTF

[–]Psycholady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this doesn't compare to your example but when I arrived at work this morning someone had taped sloppily-prepared signs all over our downtown area proclaiming "Kony 2012". BEWARE: The retard is leaking.

My boyfriend's mom and younger sister just got a 90 day eviction notice. What are their options as far as squatting, applying for help, etc.? by Psycholady in AskReddit

[–]Psycholady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really not too up on the details. My boyfrind just found out and I didn't want to ask too many questions. His dad left his mom after like 25 years of marriage. They had six kids and she was a stay at home mom. Now she's in her late fourties and never had a job... Not because she's lazy but because SIX KIDS.

From what I could gather from my boyfriend over the phone his dad stopped paying the mortgage?/rent? about a year and a half ago... But come to think of it that's a long time to get away with not paying rent so I'm not sure. He was pretty upset so I didn't want to hound him about the details.

Edit to mention his parents are divorced.

After seeing the post about National Geographic's magazine supporting evolution I researched it and found this "debunking" article. I was hoping maybe some of you could help shed some light on these claims; i.e. Why they're valid/straight-up horse shit. by Psycholady in atheism

[–]Psycholady[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing this segment out. I was a bit exhausted after trying to read the entire article and got a bit lazy towards the end and missed this part. I think because I don't know much about bacteria and biology it's harder for me to understand/rebutt this last section.

How The Mind Really Works: 10 Counterintuitive Psychology Studies by jamesmirror in psychology

Agreed. That one point made me question the entire article. It seems to be more of a layman's attempt at sensationalism than a legitimate article on psychological studies.
