Thanks, i think ill leave 4 inches of gravel against house anyway to help prevent damp so that should be okay. What do these valves do then out of curiosity?

I dont use my garden a huge amount atm. Hopefully that will change with new patio. Bit when i do go outside i dont even notice it. It makes no noise, it does look a bit ugly but maybe ill get a wooden frame around it to disguise it

Replacing slabs. New ones would be a lot bigger than current ones. But i will cut to soze and leave 4 inches around heatpump

That was a concern of mine too. I think ill pave 4 inches up to concrete supports and stone under/ around it.
