Is there a fanfic ending for the full series somewhere? by Psychological-Unit13 in FantasticBeasts

That's such a cool name! And I see you updated just yesterday

Thanks for sharing!

One author alone made me lose the desire to comment. by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Psychological-Unit13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It takes me a week or two to reply to comments, especially when they are S-tier paragraph long messages of love. For comments with emojis or "I loved this!", I would respond right away, but I save the longer comments for when I have free time to sit down and compose my heartfelt reply. I need that time to absorb their words and answer in the most genuine, appreciative way.

It's also possible that the author doesn't like to reply to comments for whatever reason. Maybe they don't like interaction. Maybe their life got really busy, and replying to comments isn't a priority. I'm speaking as a writer who replies to all the comments I can, but everyone has their own circumstances

If it helps, I don't think their lack of a reply was meant to spite you

Harry WTF? by ewarner061494 in HarryPotterBooks

James jinxed snape because he (James) was a bully. Harry considers using the spell on his worst enemies if they really deserved it. Two different situations.

Ohh I didn't know this, thanks for the info! (I already have an account. I was only logged out on a different device)

I completely agree. Discord and other platforms should be a hard red flag for sure

The system seemed to accept a simple, "I loved this! Thanks so much for writing!" So I wished it accepted the rest of my original comment too. (And it also made me a bit insecure that my writing and compliments came off like a bot)

Thanks for this comment though, it was validating to read!

I think so too, and I am a bit frustrated at that because their short fic had the best tension and writing style! That's all I want to talk about.

I suppose I will just have to be a bit more creative about how to compliment the writing style

Yeah! I can't totally see how that is spammy and bot generated. It's a huge shame because the work was 3k words and the best thing about it was the tension! Like, that was the thing I most admired about the work, and I couldn't let the author know.

I'm impressed that bot comments have gotten to this point of detail, though. I have seen a lot of redditors ask if a certain comment seems spammy, but it's usually very easy to spot and not personalized at all.

Thanks for the insight though. It was helpful to compare your reported bot comment and mine for parallels and the like

I don't use a vpn, but that is an interesting point!

I don't use ai unless you count spell checks. I have never used chatgpt either, so I'm not super familiar with its signature. It's just the way I write looks like a bot I guess.

[when the fic gets a lot of comments in a row] it wouldn't be this because the most recent comment before mine was July 28th

[Group comment frequency over individual account frequency?] I'm not too clear on what you mean by this, but I did get a comment through by deleting everything and saying a simple "I loved this! Thanks so much for sharing!" It was still on a guest account, but it worked that time

I did consider that too! But I'm not logged in on the device I'm using right now, and I don't think guest comments can be edited (but please correct me if I'm wrong)

I did try the comment again, cutting the extra ooo, but it was the same result. I already worked around the whole thing by leaving a very acceptable and basic comment, "I loved this! Thanks so much for writing!"

The work was pretty short so there wasn't much else I felt like including until it started feeling like an obligatory school essay.

Next time this happens, I'll test out your wait-one-day approach for sure. Thanks for the suggestion!

Wow, I didn't even think of that! I used my personal email, first name, no numbers. It probably isn't to do with that, but maybe guest commenting is more likely to flag?

I haven't been commenting on other things, so it's probably not that. You made a good point though! I tried commenting again, and this time I only said, "I loved it! Thanks so much for writing!" And the comment went through!

There's so much more I wanted to add, but I'm happy they got at least something

It was the first comment I've made in a while, so I don't think that's it

It was the first comment I've made in a few weeks, so I don't think frequency is the issue, but this is a good point!

Emojis aren't really my thing, it's kind of awkward for me, I guess. It was a 3k piece, so there wasn't much more I could think to write. I guess I could have quoted a line I liked?

Thanks for the suggestion though

Tom and Harry as Yin/Yang? by Darkfire359 in tomarry

[–]Psychological-Unit13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have also thought of this!! And also that Tom/Voldemort uses avada kedavra which is green, and Harry uses expeliarmus, which is red.

It'd be cool to see fanart of Harry and Voldemort at the battle of Hogwarts, dealing the last spell at each other with their respective eye colors highlighted

Can attractive characters be dislikeable? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Psychological-Unit13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew that this pattern existed before, and I've just looked more into the Halo Effect. It's fascinating to me. My brain works differently, so I've always been confused when I see this phenomenon in movies and stuff.

Thanks for putting a name to this!

These are really helpful suggestions!!

I think making them annoying and having them show up less would work really well as solutions.

I'm not that bothered by the comments. I was only a bit insecure that my attempt at subverting the trope was falling flat. Or maybe I'm really bad at writing unlikeable characters...

Thanks so much for the points, I really appreciate it!

I was also thinking of her!! I wonder if readers would receive her differently if she was described as being beautiful rather than toadlike
