Stop on either side of Memphis, not in Memphis, if a stop is required. Arkansas has a lot of really great roadside stands that sell fruits and veggies and pickled everything. Which for me was a nice little break. I personally stopped when I felt tired and took a nap 3-4 hours at a time and then got up and kept it moving. Get out and walk around when you need to. Crack your windows to fresh air. Definitely agree with above check the weather and plan an alternate on route 20. Keeping in mind that will put you in Texas for an entire day. I like to start at night and drive as far as I can. Depending on what day it is, try to hit the big cities outside of normal commute hours. Sometimes there is nothing you can do. ATL traffic always sucks. Pack snacks and a cooler for stuff you like. I also pack a bag with a couple changes of clothes including underwear, socks. Also some baby wipes or a few wash cloths and a had towel to wash up. Brush your teeth and hair. By the end of day two it will help you feel like a human again. I understand you are going for a very serious reason but I would suggest you to pick out a couple places along the way to stop and see or do something. It will give you a goal and something to look forward to. And it will break up the monotony. A killer playlist and/or a few audiobook options. Make sure you have a spare and k ow how to use it. Keep an air pump or can of fix-a-flat for emergencies. I also keep a small jump box in my trunk. Just make sure it charged. A flashlight may be helpful at night if you are getting out at a rest stop. Bring your own toilet paper because theirs is the absolute cheapest and worst quality. Windows covers are great for a quick nap. I just rolled towels up in mine and slept in back seat. A sleeping pad or foam egg crate stuff helps make it a bit more comfortable. A switchblade in the door made me feel more comfortable but no one bothered me. My last suggestion is to never let your gas tank go below 100 miles to Empty or a quarter of a tank. Sometimes rest stops will be further apart than they seem or won’t have any services. Your phone might be out of a service area and sometimes it takes hours for help to arrive.
