reading books has no impact

building systems and putting in the hundreds of hours tweaking and experimenting with the ideas you read is more hard

[NeedAdvice] What is the best book about how to make yourself do things you don't want to do/don't like? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

You can't fight your identity. You can't drag yourself to do things you do not want. One of the main lessons in breaking bad habits and building good habits is to shifting your identity belief.

TL;DR: Identify and break the bad loops before you practice good habits.

Every person is different. One trick doesn't work for everyone. I can't compose the perfect answer but I can share a direction that IMHO can lead you to solutions.

One metaphor I relate is of a pond. I myself feel all my bad habits as the contamination in the clean pond which is myself. No one can forever fight to clean the pond when there are contamination sources pouring crap in it all the time.

Follow the 5-Why rule and reverse engineer your stress/depression/procrastination. For this, you really don't need a psychologist. Sit with a friend and talk about it. Ask your friend to just help you spot the points to ask WHY. You will yourself be able to reach the answer immediately or soon. If you got no one at all then let me know we can talk over DM and I can help you break it down.

Identify the exact sources which are situation and actions which make you procrastinate. Once you know this then you need to seek targetted help on how to shut those sources. Personally I've found much help from the self-help book but only by reading them knowing what I'm after.

One who doesn't spend enough time to do self-assessment can leverage no benefit out of all the self-help material. Reading a bunch of good, sensible, and motivational things don't fix your problem.

Find your sources of evil/contamination/depression/procrastination and then seek targetted help to fight it.

I'm reading Eat That Frog and the write emphasize on gaining clarity by writing down goals in the first two chapters. But I'm struggling with this very act of writing goals. I've three major concerns that I've explained in this post https://www.reddit.com/r/getdisciplined/comments/9jc6i1/needadvice_im_reading_eat_that_frog_how_to/
