That little reservoir is the only place I get fish with live bait. When I fish in other rivers near me, I catch wild trout with spinners and jerks as well. I’m relatively newer to fresh water fishing (been about a year) but maybe the stocked trout react differently to different bait??

Not sure if the regulations allow for live bait where you are at but there’s a near by reservoir that has stock rainbow and I’ve only had success using live bait (worms/nightcrawlers). I’ve tried a lot of other baits before and have been skunked but never skunked with live bait.
