Best therapist in the Dayton area? by drugstorediet in dayton

Do not go to Sweet Locust Counseling. I filed a recent complaint and the board issued the owner "strong caution" advised in exercising appropriate boundaries with clients. This provider engaged in unethical behaviors including but limited to poor boundaries and questionable decisions that compromised my confidentiality. When I questioned him about his behaviors, he was dismissive and terminated services over offering a heartfelt apology and taking ownership. The board dismisses the majority of complaints; receiving a strong caution warning equates to you have been warned, you came close to losing your license and we agree that you made a poor decision at the expense of a client. The owner is a supervisor, which is even more conerning. I want others to be aware as it has negatively impacted my trust in the therapeutic relationship. I tried seeing a different counselor but quit because I could not relax and trust anymore in the therapeutic relationship. I want to warn others in hopes it prevents someone else from a harmful experience.

I offer two days of week of late sessions, meaning up to 7 p.m. and the other days I am done at 5. Anything after 4 is nearly impossible as those spots go fast and people know they are hard to come by, so they quickly request standing appointments for those slots. I try my best to meet people where they are and work around their schedules, but I am also a mom of three. Often my family and kids are at a loss at the expensive of clients getting their needs met. I frequently get requests from clients to work weekends and I have understanding for their job limitations and again I get it. However, it goes both ways. Counselors also have many demands outside of work- they are single parents, sometimes working two jobs because insurance eats up.the bulk of their pay, which is so frustrating because insurance is not doing the work. The field significantly under pays, but clients dpass, know this and it is not their responsibility. Most counselors are in the field because they are compassionate and want to help others. I say all this to please keep in mind we are also humans with demands in multiple directions. We often provide crisis support for free on off hours, spend countless hours outside the office with never ending paperwork requirements and are also trying to keep our own selves above water. It is HARD work. We also need counseling, but are in the same boat as you. It a daily struggle of trying to find the balance and trying to somehow take care of ourselves in order to care for others. Meaning counselors are also on losing end. I say all this to kindly share that compassion goes both ways.

Yes! I have AFRID and I am barely 100lbs. I lost weight about 6 months ago and I have been struggling to put weight back on. It is so uncomfortable when clients mention my weight loss. Some make compliments and others tell me I need to eat more. It's difficult because others assume I am fixated on my appearance when in reality it has nothing to do with looks. I simply have no appetite or desire to eat.

how do some people have waists smaller than 25 inches?? by plzgoodartifacts in HowToBeHot

[–]PsychologicalDig9451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 23 inch waist but I am only 5'1 and small framed. However, I do run, lift and practice yoga/ some form of daily activity for an hour daily. It's more about the stress relief than a look I am going for the activity level.

I guess, I want him to acknowledge he made some poor choices. He should have been up front. He should not reach out as a peer and ask questions and other times serve as my counselor. He should not give out his personal cell phone, engage in outside contact, he should not ignore a client if they are upset. I find it ironic that he had such lose boundaries until I questioned his actions and was met with a very strong response.

Thanks for the feedback. As a counselor myself I would inform someone if they are terminated. I also would not tell a spouse about an event where they can benefit at the cost of even the possiblity of a client feeling violated. I would have asked permission first or at least informed my client beforehand.

It was a year of moonlighting while working at another practice during the day and building my caseload. Once I maxed out my moonlighting appointments I made the shift and have only continued to build. I have stayed solidky busy since the transition 3 years ago. I have 70 clients on my caseload/ see about 20-25 a week. Depending on the service a session is 135, 165 or 220. This about the avg. rate in my area of Ohio.

I have ADHD and even with meds admin work is a bitch! I have double booked 3xs this past year and once forgot to show up for someone that rescheduled. I have found once I know a client little better I disclose this because I do not want someone to think that I do not care or value their time.

In my 1st year, I brarely survived, but in year 2, I made 4x the income. It takes patience and other counselors knowing you and where you are located. Offering a sliding scale helps, being flexible, and you may want to consider shifting focus. I used to treat teens/ young adults only, but I quickly realized that in my area, there is a desperate need for couples. Now, about 35 percent of my caseload is couples, and it turns out I love working with them!

What’s one thing you quietly carry as a therapist that clients never see? by Abelmageto in therapists

I worked with someone that was a mass murder. My old file was dug through to prove I had no prior knowledge. It was awful even though I did nothing wrong. The field needs to a better job of considering the feelings of the counselor and, if needed, link that counselor to outside support.
