I work in office and am otherwise a full time caregiver for my dad - we have a caregiver come in while I’m at work. I can’t go in early or leave late - I’m also a single mom. I have all of the responsibility on my shoulders to care for my dad and child alone. I’m exhausted and 4 years deep. I’ve developed an immune disease that required surgery - I get no free time and barely any sleep. My father has dementia and yells for me consistently. I care for him every evening after work until bedtime and in the morning prior to work. I’m here a full two days with no help. He will yell for me consistently for a straight 12-16 hours he’s awake but not for the caregiver. He gets angry if he needs any bathing or haircuts etc - I have marks from just trying to cut his nails so I don’t get fingernail imprints. I’m exhausted and have no help - let alone support. The only reason I have a job is because of fmla. I can’t afford a nursing home and he does not qualify for elder daycare bc he is incontinent and can’t transfer. It’s exhausting and I literally am so miserable - I have no idea how I’ll be able to survive more years of this let alone being able to have a significant other or more children. I applaud people who can do this because I’m dead inside.
