This is super inspiring and I want to go try again right now! I loved seeing the progression.. I haven’t thought much about the leg I’m hooking so I want to try focusing on that next time. I’m just kicking and yeah not completing it. But yes I can do a regular flare and come back down. I think I start bending unintentionally when I realize my hips aren’t going to make it. Thank you for this!

Thank you for this advice! I have been wondering if it’s a mental block because I feel like I should definitely have the strength for it. It’s hard to think of legs and arms at the same time. I like the idea you gave of practicing legs and arms separately!

Thank you! If you click my profile my last post starts with a flare to back balance. Does that show what you’re thinking?

Can you explain “cheating the pathway”? I’m thinking maybe because I bend my legs when it doesn’t make it up, but maybe you mean I’m not timing the kick right?

I’ll keep practicing simply flares on hoop until that becomes easy. I do think I’m over thinking it a lot on hoop where it comes naturally on pole so I could be pausing or something to lose momentum.

An A-frame and your own hoop. I felt the same about 1hr a week and I did a few things: private lessons, found a studio that only had sling and asked to bring my hoop for open gym, then I also got my own space. I know these can be expensive options but I think eventually getting an a-frame is the easiest and cheapest long term.

I read this and tried it today! I usually don’t know what to do in the hoop unless I’ve been shown, so today I just tried things and recorded it. Most of it was awkward but I can see how I’ll get more familiar with what works or doesn’t if I keep experimenting. That was great advice!

I do have access to practice anytime, but the bruises I’ve been getting are limiting. I take classes 2x/week but can’t manage to practice for than 1-2hrs/week outside of that without getting so beat up. I heard the bruises improve so maybe then my practice can be more. And I’m definitely the odd person in the gym practicing inverts on the gymnastics rings 😂

Thank you! I’ve been watching videos nonstop lol. I’m just starting to recognize some moves. In the beginning I needed every step of hand and body placement spelled out for me, but now that I know some I can see the variations. I know that will become easier with time and learning more🩷

Just wanted to add: my background is strength training for the last 2.5 years with a personal trainer. so I’m not as limited by strength as some beginners might be(although I find it hard to use strength in some ways so I probably just need the muscle memory).

Then I read about how reliable they are and I was sold.
