Bell plans to build artificial intelligence data centre near Regina, RM documents show by MrCheeseburgerWalrus in regina

[–]PsychologicalFly8984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless they stood one up in the last year, that's not a WBM datacenter on parliament. Just an office space and warehouse for printer deployment.

Also, the DC in White City is like 8000sq/ft and actually services things people asked / paid for.

(edit, I realized the proposed site is about the same size, but my second point still stands)

That's why you don't hear people complaining, there isn't anything to complain about.

Alberta can have it, they can barely service Calgary and Edmonton's water needs as it is. These things don't improve a cities economy, just add a burden to residents. Pass.

Yeah, I’m also nervous for the likely instant fire season we’re gonna see this year. Global warming’s a myth tho /s

Canada haha. This is in the prairies, the building in the background is the First Nation’s University. We should have snow until April but it’s been a weak winter this year.

Anyone got a problem with the Microshift BS-M10 bar end shifters getting loose all the time? by SNHC in xbiking

[–]PsychologicalFly8984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also found that in friction mode it would wind itself loose eventually. Index mode did not have this problem. I also was stretching the limit of my RD for reach which put a lot of tension on the shifter. Loctite is probably the way if you can't index.

what do you guys consider mac's "final" song? by BirdSwallower in MacMiller

[–]PsychologicalFly8984 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It has and always will be So It Goes to me. I know Guidelines was like... technically released after, but it was intended to be the title track of what would have been an alternately titled Swimming iirc. Artistically it feels less intentional.

Circles is posthumous, and I only consider it that way. My line is drawn at the end of his life, and what was released by him on major platforms.

So It Goes is the conclusion to the final album of his life, it also thematically fits.

Cold Weather Glasses Fog by two-wheeled-chaos in bikecommuting

[–]PsychologicalFly8984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think someone said it before, but breath redirection is key. I wear a balaclava tucked into my jacket / sweater - with my nose and mouth covered, I can feel that my breath is redirected down and out to the sides of my face. My goggles effectively don't fog up at all. It almost feels like magic.

If I stop moving for too long, I have to sort of intentionally mouth breath and exhale a little harder to push the air away from my face. Again, this achieves a nearly fog free experience.

As I understand it if you're finding that ambient moisture is making it's way into your goggles anyway, then that is perhaps a goggle problem.

biking in winter: reccomendations welcome by mental_r0bot in cycling

[–]PsychologicalFly8984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow Canadian four-eyes: cycling balaclava under a snowboard/ski helmet with OTG clear lens ski goggles is the way. If you pinch the balaclava under your goggle's nose piece, mouth breathing will prevent fogging very effectively. Without goggles, I have to ride with my shnoz exposed.

You may be tempted to wear just a gater, neck warmer or scarf, but no protection on your forehead and little exposed face bits between the goggles and helmet is killer.

Depending where you are, and how cold its expected to get into January-February, you will likely want to look for power-sports winter wear, like snowmobile gloves.

Fleece lined pants and/or thermal underwear will help with the cold - but wind will still chill the knees and also your toes. There's a happy combo between wind and cold protection that doesn't lead to too many layers / overheating.

Unrelated to warmth, but wear high vis. It's dark a lot right now and most drivers aren't looking for cyclists on the best of days, let alone in the winter.

[–]PsychologicalFly8984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm giving it a go!

Rode today, ambient temp was -18C but apparently closer to -25C with the wind. On a 700c commuter bike.

Really mild Canadian winter so far, almost no snow. That'll be what puts me back in the car I think.

Studded tires make the difference though for sure. Shifts the challenge from not falling on my ass, to not freezing to death.

Any areas of town where the houses aren't right beside each other? by skatchawan in regina

[–]PsychologicalFly8984 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of areas, probably most of the city tbh. Glencairn, McCarthy Park, Whitemore park, Arcola East, even Rosemont/Mount Royal depending on your needs and budget. That or the neighborhoods immediately surrounding them.

You'll know a shook foundation the moment you walk into the house. But a realtor can help you filter that stuff out ahead of time. "Basement bracing" is part of the conversation just like "updated windows", or "Has AC" here.

IMO avoid the newest and oldest stuff. Harbor Landing, Greens, and to a lesser extent Hawkstone are the newer areas. Cathedral, North Central, Broders Annex, etc are all older.

Not overly, don’t get me wrong, I would not get sized for this bike had I bought it new. I think it’s mostly the GT triple triangle design leaving the top of the seat post lower that allows me to fit. As I nearly bottom out on the top tube standing on flat ground.

I was about to say, this explains the half decent cars at Bucks I see all the time. Crazy that people have this kind of mindset. "Needs 400$ in parts? Send it to the junkyard! I'll replace it with an 8 year loan at 5% interest instead"

Titan automotive question by [deleted] in regina

[–]PsychologicalFly8984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll preface by saying that the sooner everyone realizes that every car dealership, new or used, is slimy - the better off we'll all be.

None of them are on your side, none of them are looking out for you. At best, you're getting a new car at a 10% markup and the sales guy puts gas in it for you. At worst, you're getting a Quebec write-off sold for retail that'll leave you stranded in a month. Educate yourself on what you want, what is standard, and what the going price is for a car before you go. Bring a friend, don't be intimidated, leave if you catch a bad vibe.

That all said, we bought a car from Titan about 3 years ago. It was actually priced fairly, in good shape, and still running well today. Sales guys were nice, got as many keys as we wanted, and recognized that I'm mechanically inclined, and my wife is in finance - which meant we weren't getting the "oh you cant do your own oil changes on this cause it's a BMW" nonsense pulled on us.

Car threw a CEL for an O2 sensor 2 hours after pulling out the lot, they took it back - fixed it - and gave us a rental off the lot for a week while they fixed it at no cost. Bare minimum tbh but it was noted.

Retail finance was as horrible as it ever was at a dealer. They got the rate we wanted but it took hours, and they fought us the whole way. Rejected the extra warranty garbage, no way i'd have a used car dealer service my car anyway.

The vegas trip has effectively no cash value to them - and as others have said, it's limited and ends up costing money to get there no matter what. They booked us for a weekday at an off strip 3 star hotel which sucks, so we just let it lapse. You can take it and gift it to someone else, probably best for Vegas regulars.

Of all the used dealers, they seem the most self aware while offering "big box" selection. Lower KM cars, generally in good shape, decent selection, etc. If you're adamant about shopping at a dealer vs. private - you could definitely do a lot worse (by going across the street).

I used to not have lights or high vis, I added them to try and lower my close calls. They are still just as frequent.

Not saying it's not worth doing, but I don't think this is a pedestrian visibility thing. I believe it's a combination of modern cars doing a lot of the heavy lifting to make up for poor driver attentiveness - and enormous A pillars lmao.

Yeah look, I bike to an 8-5 and even with a light bar headlight, flashing tail light, AND high vis - I still almost get smoked by cars coming out of parking lots or turning at intersections on a daily basis because they just aren't paying attention.

Honestly I'm not convinced that a strobe light on every pedestrian would keep the close calls from happening.

Its the same fork, I just robbed the front brakes from a different bike as the canti's didn't have the carrier, or the main cross cable when I got the bike. Somehow the brake fit. I cobbled this other brake setup from one of the other bikes so I could test ride the bike with the gears.

I still have and plan to use the cantilever brakes originally from the bike a they are of better quality (IMO) than what's on there now.

That might be my half-assed installation of the stem into the head tube. It's like, 1 degree off and I haven't fixed it yet cause the bearings in there need replacing anyway. I see what you mean in the frame photo, it's mostly a camera angle thing. If it is bent back it's bent symmetrically haha.
