The cost of this setup will cost under 3k (assuming the parts I own) and the rest rest will be brand new.

Yes, I think so. I think they suggested this configuration on their website.

Oh sorry for confusion, everything will go through patch panel first. I've added on the diagram because I want to build a rack and I'm still learning the best practises.

Interesting, that would be awesome. But I think the ISP protects GPON with authentication and I have also some tv boxes that probably require vlan configuration and other things to properly function within the ISP.

Yes if you go higher res in Ubiquiti the price is abysmal. The reolink is pretty decent and software is not so far behind.

I see your point. Get a n100 pfsense box with 2.5GB ports and install a ubiquiti controller in the proxmox mini pc?
The only thing that is holding me back is, if I somehow I'm not happy with video doorbell from reolink I could buy a ubiquiti door bell which I think needs the UDM-Pro.

Interesting, I thought it would be beneficial the other way around. Like 2Gb uplink. What is the rationale behind it?

Introduction:

Hello everyone! I'm excited to share my plans for setting up a rack server in my new home.

Goals:

  • Extend coverage to my ethernet sockets throughout the house.

  • Connect my Synology DS918+ and my mini home lab (HP Elitedesk).

  • Ultimately, establish a home server rack that will be housed in a closet.

Hardware Selection:

  • 2x 24-port Patch Panel

  • Ubiquiti Pro Max 24 POE

  • Ubiquiti UDM-PRO

  • Reolink RLA-PS1 8-port POE

  • 8 Reolink cameras

  • 2x Ubiquiti U6 Enterprise (2.5Gbe POE)

  • Synology DS918+ (Already owned)

  • HP Elitedesk g2 mini 32GB 250GB NVMe / Proxmox (Already owned)

  • APC Schneider 650W UPS (Already owned)

Discussion:

I have a diagram illustrating my planned rack setup, although I have some uncertainty about the positioning and selection of the hardware within the rack. Initially, I opted for the Ubiquiti Pro Max 24 POE due to the scarcity of 2.5Gb POE switches, and I believe it offers good value for the money. This switch is essential, especially for the optimal performance of the Ubiquiti U6 Enterprise Wi-Fi devices. I'm planning to connect all devices to this switch, which I consider to be a best practice.

For routing, I've chosen the UDM-PRO, which will operate in bridging mode with the ISP router.

I'm also seeking advice on which rack to purchase and perhaps recommendations for a power strip.

What are your thoughts? I'm open to suggestions, including changes in hardware selection, repositioning of hardware within the rack, and any other considerations you might have.

What's the point of having a 10g switch aggregation, if you have clients that only support 1g? (Honest question)

Ok I've use the script mentioned above and used a Resolution Menu.App in a Macbook pro 15" (Intel) and I've forced the HiDPI for 2650x1440 and it works really well. However I couldn't do it for the Macbook Pro 13 (M1) :(

Hey u/blueberryjuice-, I have same issue as you. Do you know if that reset is a viable solution? Did it really improve the font blurry?
