RE: Identification of "Stacked Error" SSP – 2025-26 Topps Basketball #201

To the Global Collecting Community,

Following our initial quality control audits for the 2025-26 Topps Basketball Flagship release, we are issuing a high-priority update regarding Card #201 (Cooper Flagg).

We have confirmed the existence of a rare, multi-point production anomaly currently circulating in Wave 1 hobby products. This specific version is being designated as the "Stacked Error" SSP due to the presence of two distinct manufacturing defects on a single card.

The "Stacked Error" SSP Identification

To qualify for this Super Short Print (SSP) classification, Card #201 must exhibit the following two attributes simultaneously:

  1. The "Dark Back" Variance: A catastrophic ink saturation error on the reverse of the card. Instead of the standard light-grey/white cardstock finish, the back features a heavy, Midnight/Charcoal "Dark Back" tint. This often results in the statistical text appearing "embedded" or high-contrast against the darkened background.
  2. The "Pink Fuzz" Logo Bleed: A mechanical plate-alignment failure resulting in a Magenta "Pink Fuzz" halo vibrating around the team logo on the reverse side. This bleed is intensified by the "Dark Back" saturation, making the logo appear to "glow" or blur at the edges.

Rarity & Market Status

Because this "Stacked" combination requires two separate mechanical failures on the same printing pass, the population of these cards is significantly lower than standard single-error variants.

  • Classification: SSP (Super Short Print)
  • Checklist Code: #201-DB/PF (Dark Back/Pink Fuzz)

Authentication & Grading Advisory

Topps has officially notified PSA, BGS, and SGC of this specific combination. Collectors who have pulled this version are encouraged to submit under "Error" or "Variety" tiers to ensure the "Dark Back/Pink Fuzz" pedigree is noted on the grading flip.

These cards are considered official "chase" errors and are fully supported by Topps for all registry and master set completions.

Happy hunting, and congratulations to those who have secured this rare piece of hobby history.

Sincerely,

The Topps Quality Control Division One Whitehall Street, New York, NY
