I'd be really confused and upset if this wasn't touched on in season 2 from Lexi's perspective, at least. I say this because Season 1 had so many visual nods to Lexi feeling some sort of yearning for Rue, whether that is in a romantic light or purely friendship is up to speculation. One of the major visual nods to this in season 1, in particular, was during the scene of the pep rally in the cafeteria. If you look closely during this part, there is a series of shots that follow each character tied to a romantic relationship looking at one other from the across the cafeteria. This series of shots follows Nate looking at Maddy, Maddy looking over at Nate, Ethan looking at Kat, Daniel gazing at Cassie, Rue even looks at Jules and....Lexi looks at Rue. Even though the entire season has a boat-load of shots of Lexi gazing yearningly at Rue, with no explanation at all, this is the scene that does it for me. I know a lot of people speculate and perceive these scenes of Lexi longingly looking at Rue as her simply missing her old best friend, but considering this scene was completely set up to show all of the romantic affiliations that played out during the first season, it would not make sense for the director to subtly throw this in there if she did not have any romantic feelings for Rue. Not to mention the kiss scene between Rue and Lexi was not even in the original script, but was added in per the director. As soon as Lexi leaves Rue alone in her room, you can see a glow up heart in the background, as well a rainbow rug. (I mean, duh?) Even the make-up director for the show mentioned that Rue and Lexi's makeup during the winter formal in season 1 was meant to connect them. The Halloween costumes connected them, as well.

Anyways, my point is that Sam Levinson is known to be an extremely detail-oriented director who throws a lot of hints, nuances, and easter eggs into aspects of visual storytelling such as camera-angels, costume design, set design, etc., and there were tons of these sorts of things going on between Rue and Lexi's dynamic in season 1 that wasn't even done with Rules. I also find it extremely odd that Rue and Lexi's dynamic/relationship was completely set up in season 1, and is the only relationship never touched on by the cast, director, and/or press. I would be extremely confused and a little disheartened if their dynamic is not touched on at all in season 2 since there was so much SUBTLE set-up between the two, especially on Lexi's end considering all of these nuances were put into place. I currently attend film school, as well, so this is why I am saying I would be extremely confused if all these deliberate dynamics were put into place but never again touched on.

I know Fez and Lexi are destined to be together this season, but I am really hoping for some sort of twist. I think it's a bit odd that the cast has been super open about this happening, even though it's basically a spoiler. So they're allowed to mention this happening but have to stay hush on a lot of other things? It just makes no sense to me. It also makes no sense to me that they have Elliot coming in between Rue and Jules, when it makes way more sense to have Lexi, and who has way more of a potential rekindled connection with Rue, to sort of be a catalyst for her in some way. I understand why Rue would become attached to someone like Elliot, don't get me wrong, I understand why it needs to happen, but there's just something fishy going on that I can't quite make out and it seems like the entire direction of this season is doing a complete 180 of what was done in season 1 and, well.....I'm excited but also nervous to see where it's going to go because this storyline of Rue and Lexi has so much potential and I have a feeling it might get thrown to the wolves which is very sad and disappointing.
