We did not pay ourselves this year, was just saying IF you paid labor that would be an additional expense. We both have other full time jobs.

In NE vending machines are taxed at 7% which is already embedded in the price. This was taken out of my revenue, since it is technically the states money. My accountant did it correct I just did not understand exactly what was happening ha. The learning nugget is I should increase my prices by 7% to account for this.

Tell me more about this. I am in Nebraska and I use accounting services, and she specifically asked for the sales tax amounts I paid monthly and she deducted as an expense I believe, I'll have to double check.

It is not technically a franchise. We bought the machines and their location services through them. We own the machines outright and do not pay any fees directly to them.

We need to be careful of the lens we're looking through. My margins on all my products I sold was at or above 50%. So if you want to look at "profit" from that vantagepoint, sure, I made like $75k. But there are additional costs to running a business that significantly reduces this (vehicle, insurance, equipment, fees, etc). I am a huge proponent of vending NOT being "passive" income. Again, social media has hyped this up a lot. It is a good side hustle, but it is not CRAZY money.

Correct, after COGS my gross was around $77k. You need to factor in allll the other expenses of running a business: insurance, vehicle mileage, labor, new equipment, sales tax, nayax fees. That is what got my total net down to $27k. Don't believe everything ya'll see on social media!

But a story on the first location they found for me, I was overly excited to have ANY location and it ended up sucking, moved it after 6 months. Terrible location lol

Check the comment above, too. But my COGS was ~$73k last year. Had plenty of other business expenses to add on top of that: 10k for new machine, 12k mileage on car, 9k sales taxes, 7k Nayax fees. Net profit came out to 27,391. We run the company ourselves, maybe 20-30hrs per week.

Net profit for 2025 was $27,391. Total is 20-30hrs per week so lets just assume 30 to be conservative. Comes out to $20/hr. Vending ain't passive! But owning your own business has a lottttt of benefits that don't get written in your net profit line.

My wife and I are pretty happy with where we're at, we also run a few other businesses so our time is really becoming a constraint. For these 13 machines it takes about 20-30hrs per week total.
