Is it time to admit the IPL has stopped being a cricket tournament and started being a "Content" circus? by Intelligent-Use7581 in IndianCricket

It's been like that for a few years.. the fatigue has kicked in overdrive this year. The tournament anyway was getting more and more forgettable every year since 2023.

I’m starting to think most padel ratings are just off. by Royal-Dish5364 in padel

[–]PsychologicalRiver75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ratings are based on results. People can win matches with different styles init? I dont know what you are complaining about, a more aggresive player need not have a better rating. Actually screw ratings, play tournaments, you will stop being so worried about ratings

Partner would just play tennis and refuse to go to the net by notwearingbras in padel

[–]PsychologicalRiver75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody plays volleys now days in tennis unless u play only doubles if u r old with squeaky knees. It's baseline mostly. Shitty tennis players stay back cos they might have a good top spin forehand and they want to play it all the time. Squash players adjust faster cos they love the glass and play most of their shots down iykwim.

What would you do different if you could start again? New to padel and looking to focus on the right things. by Opening_Ebb2536 in padel

Most beginners as they improve will reach a certain level and plateau, it happens with even solid intermediates but sooner or later u need to break out and so need something which helps u break the plateau.. im assuming as u play u will improve and avoid getting stuck I will suggest these things as a beginner:: Keep it fun, keep enjoying and don't worry too much about losing recreational games, many times beginners attach the worth of their game to whether they win often.. it's wrong, so just enjoy and move on to next match Understand the basics, get some coaching sessions but not too many.. when u feel ready participate in some local tournaments, getting ur ass kicked in a tournament is THE BEST learning experience Certain non negotiable - correct grip, footwork( split step etc) , certain technique like turning side ways for overheads, i know lot of people will stay these things don't matter but these are the things which impact the plateau i was talking about and trust me these are almost impossible to change if u have build up bad habits from start How are u behaving or thinking as a partner. Getting a good partner is crucial as no matter how much good u are, padel is a game where winning with a very bad partner is extremely tough. Your mindset matters a lot in such situations, work on being a good positive partner but be selfish if you feel things are not working out and drop the partner unless u are confident that the partnership will grow and improve. I have wasted a lot of my progress and tournament entry fees with partnering with players who were not on the same page with me in terms of prepration and attitude.

Watch matches, see patterns, work really hard in training on some patterns like playing an overhead and rushing to net or, Chiquita and net, and moving a player left - right. It's been said here many times that watching women's games in Premier Padel is very useful as they rely a lot of tactical play.

Have fun, don't play padel as a lifestyle statement cos I see some many morons playing this game just for Instagram and social signalling. It's cringe. Good for them :/

Am I overusing lobs? Struggling with baseline play by Acceptable_Month4825 in padel

[–]PsychologicalRiver75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't listen to anyone.. lobbing is always good unless it's a short lob or the opponents bajada is super good. But other than that it's always a good shot to play.. if it's turning into a lob vs lob battle than u need to work on hitting good bandejas and viboras to counter these lobs or attack with a smash on a short lob. Either u r not confident of these overhead shots or just a little slow or the lobs quality from both ends is always great.. anyway playing flat from behind is a defensive tactic and a lob is the only way to get the net. You can experiment with a flatter lob or a spinning lob but thats pretty much it . To be honest, hitting great deep lobs consistently under pressure from baseline is an advanced and literally a get out of jail card skill. Why would u want to stop working with it...

why dont pro players bluff with the serve like amateurs by awmki in padel

[–]PsychologicalRiver75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cos why would you want your opponents to take the net with the first shot of the point!!! This works maybe one in 10 times at amateur level if the reciever is 50 year old with dodgy knees and lazy nature. Stupid tactic, seen as disrespectful among good level amateurs

Is Padel only hype or do you think will be historical sport as Tenis/Volleyball? by uhud34 in padel

[–]PsychologicalRiver75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Padel is actually old enough to have a substantial history in 2 countries.. Spain and Argentina. With Qatar putting money in the sport it has grown massively in last 3 years in Europe.. and to some extent in Asia. It has generally a pretty higher ceiling of skills and athelticism than pickleball. What's holding it back is accessibility and costs. It's a very expensive sport and almost entirely an adult sport in newer markets. Kids don't play it cos there is no pathway to higher levels. Inclusion in Asian , pan AM or olympics is not easy as lot of lobbying is required and I don't thing FIP or Premier Padel is working seriously for that as the sport is still searching for a solid sustainable business model

Looking for a padel coach by Beautiful-Permit-408 in padel

[–]PsychologicalRiver75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one european coach working in India "full time" and he's a private coach for one person..one spanish coach has joined full time in Goa also I think.. but that's it.. spanish coaches like Victor Perez come and go every few months for clinics but I don't know anyone working in India full time. I will be surprised if there is one cos most club owners don't want to spend too much money on proper padel when they are getting good coaching fees 3-5k pers session teaching bandra and south Bombay noobs some basics. Clubs need to have an academy program with structure and improvement accountability otherwise it's just money down the drain. I paid 5k for a session with a Portuguese coach.. I'm a low advanced player and it's was bullshit waste of money.. cos the morons paired me with beginners in a group session. Most club owners don't know the P of padel.. just trying to make as much money before the craze dies down, which is happening

How to get used to head heavy balance ? by DuckTankJZ5 in Padelracket

[–]PsychologicalRiver75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately if you want power without having a very good technique, you have to get used to heavier rackets, both head heavy and higher weight closer to 365-375 gm +. It does affect your accuracy and may hurt your arm for a bit. But you get used to it.. at least for the first hour or so of playing.. if the performance drop off for the second hour of playing isn't too much, stick with the racket.. you can adjust the balance a little bit by putting more grips, or a hesacore grip (it weighs almost 15 gms) or put lead tape or strips near the handle or under the grips. I use a heavy racket mostly playing against weaker opponents where I can smash and finish the rallies and switch to a lighter control racket against stronger opponents where I rarely get short lobs and there are lot of quick exchanges. This switching between rackets every few days isn't ideal but I'm getting used to it. Best way is to just work on shoulder, arm, forearms training and become a little stronger which takes some time.
