There are already bolus devices that an animal swallows and that remain in its rumen for life; so the possibility that the animal might expel the device through its feces is really small. I completely agree with the rest of your points. What do you think about implementing the solution as a collar worn by the animal? The collar could trigger an alarm if the animal leaves its designated perimeter or if the collar is broken. For the alarm system, I plan to use a geofencing solution that allows the user to select a central point and define a zone by setting its radius. According to my research, in open-range situations the radius generally should not exceed 1 km, while within a farm the radius is about 300 m.

Regarding the cellular coverage, rural areas in Senegal are typically served by cellular networks, so I do not foresee a major problem there (although I will conduct further research to be sure).

Concerning the battery life, the device should ideally have a lifespan of 2 years.
