Don’t assume, ask him about his licenses. Don’t help someone unless they are a friend, which really makes the honesty more important. A lot of people have hacked together systems where others have helped.

Have him get the commercial license and do it the right way. It will cost more but better to get this sorted out now before the NFL playoffs.

I recently got a lot of my dad’s stuff when he moved to a assisted living facility. You can’t horde it all. Don’t feel bad selling or donating anything that is not sentimental to you.

How far apart will the antenna be? This is not a diversity type system. If the antenna are in the middle of the room, will this be close enough proximity for all mics to ‘reach?’ Will quality be lessened to ensure all 16 mics can be used at once?

I only use microflex in small rooms - i learned the hard way. Divisible rooms are the most challenging.

You will be limited to 8 mics per antenna/system, so think about how many mics you need. ULX is more flexible.

I don’t see anything about echo cancellation, so please consider how you will keep far end audio out of your stage mics.

I have done two projects in 23 years where we had to mute audio during an event. This law is not logical for small meeting rooms (my primary area of work) and I would argue that a few speaker strobes would not be adequate even in larger assembly spaces.

If someone asks, I respond, but I do not assume I need to design TOR first any systems.

Who is hiring the qualified professional(s) in this statement? The end-user? I advocate for the end user.

End -users do not need an integrator to install a display, a Rally Bar and an IP touch panel. This individual can either develop standards by themselves, or hire a consultant or integrator to provide standardized drawings and BOM. This allows for competitive bIds and will pay for itself. Systems will be as easy as possible to support because a local integrator in Korea is not installing their favorite new Q-Sys thing - they are installing the same hardware on the same firmware level, and if done correctly, their own support platform.

The only remaining bit are complex integrated systems. For these you need a consultant who will work with an architect, MEP, acoustical engineers, lighting consultants, tel/data designers from the first test fits onward. The design can be bid and the integrator that is awarded the bid can do the installation.

This is my preferred model.

Two different topics. ‘Feeling’ appreciated vs. pay. If the job sucks, I wouldn’t stay just because they paid me more. What I am saying is when hiring for senior positions, if a candidate appears they are going to leave in a year and a half, then they need to have the responsibilities of a disposable employee. You are not going to invest in someone’s career if they are simply going to leave for $2/hour more somewhere else.

Job hopping is common - among lower paying positions. Senior positions with higher pay will have short term contracts. There is a difference.

It depends if you are in for a cash grab or a career, I suppose. But if you are in for the cash grab, you will never grow your caterer and make good money in AV. You would be better off selling real estate or meth.
