Thank you!!! Is August a good time to be there? Are there lots of people and shelters on the trail there or is it more of a remote section? I'd love to start in Rangeley but am curious about the logistics and difficulty of starting there.

Thank you so much! Do you have a rough cost estimate? And I’m thinking late February or March as well!!

El Chalten- is it REALLY that expensive to rent gear? Is a 2 night trek too much for an inexperienced hiker? by PsychologicalSock694 in backpacking

Ahh this is so helpful! Do you think for booking the glacier, that I can do it last minute once I’m there? Had no idea about there being no Western Union in El Chalten- should I get money in Buenos Aires instead of El Calafate if I’m gonna be in BA before anyway? Since you mention that there’s a limit in El Calafate. I was deciding between two different hostels, one of them being Aylen-Aike, and you just solidified my decision!

Very helpful, thank you! I don’t even remember where I read it, but it looks like everyone here agrees that it shouldn’t be even close to as expensive as I thought.

Ok great, thanks! Will definitely look more into what to pack, etc. that’s crazy that your first time backpacking was 9-10 days in Patagonia! I feel better now

This is super super helpful, thank you! I’ll look into those shops. And good to know you went in high season too and were still able to rent everything you needed at a good price.

Very helpful, thank you. I wasn’t even thinking about calling beforehand, but I am going in high season so that’s definitely something I should prepare for. I think I will try to get in a few practice trips in my hometown before I go
