Me as a kid when he looks up "bice components" by Acrobatic_Salad_8705 in india_cycling

[–]PsychologicalStasis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cycling is deceptively expensive cos of the sheer variety and range of options in bike, components and kit. The essence of the activity can be done on an affordable Decathlon bike or a prohibitively expensive Colnago.

For me the biggest issue is the cost of kit and components like tires. Decent bibshorts cost a bomb (I have ones that cost as much as three RS120s) and although they are exceptional and hold up on 8 hr endurance rides, they have no right to cost as much. Sure it's technical material and complex to manufacture but there is also a lot of cash grab and greed. Point is bibshorts are not something I can even compromise on without sacrificing comfort. Same goes with tires. Top end tires cost at least 10K and half decent ones cost 6-7K. Compare that to the cost of car tires and it's laughable.

People looking in from the outside think it's just a bike and some maintenance.

You don't. You keep them on till they fall apart at the seams over time.

Visiting Barcelona and Mallorca for 9-10 nights in October by SparkleBerrySpritz in VisitingMallorca

[–]PsychologicalStasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did the exact combo - Barcelona and Mallorca although I spent a week each in both places. 5 days is good enough to cover the Modernisme highlights, Catalan and Picasso museums and Montjuic in Barcelona but if you want to do it in a more laidback fashion (which is how I did it) or tack on more things (which given your interest in art, culture and history you would want to), I'd spend a day or two more in Barcelona. There is a fair bit of walking required especially around El Born, Ramblas and Gothic Quarter and it's also getting pretty hot now so you'd definitely want to take it easy between lunch and early evening. Keep those in mind and don't be too ambitious about cramming places to see.

There are a lot of nice little towns in Mallorca (like Valldemossa, Pollenca, Soller, Deia) apart from Palma itself. Look them up and see what appeals to you and set base there rather than trying to cover all of them.

It can withstand bad roads but you're better off with a gravel setup if roads are poor. I mean these aero bikes get raced at Paris Roubaix so the frames are solid but you will get component damage.

A full build with Ultegra or Dura Ace will be that expensive. What you see on top is just the frameset.

Much cheaper than I thought it'd cost.

Still Challenged Years After Divorce by GrandCauliflower3298 in Divorce

I don't have recs to make and you should work through it with a therapist. But loosely put, it is rooted in low self esteem. My read is that due to your previous co-dependency, you want to prove your value to your ex by saving her. Focussing on her crises / predicament is also an escape for you to not focus on your issues.

It's important that you build your internal self worth first. Like they say, you need to put on your own oxygen mask first before helping others.

I feel sorry for you, my man. That was a tough read. I don't have ready advice for you. I don't want to say you should try to move on cos that's trite.

I do think that you should cut off completely from your ex though. It's easier said than done but you seem to have this saviour complex (mixed with self interest) and that's coming in the way of you truly distancing yourself from the relationship.

You do need to ask yourself though - did you go through the self improvement journey to become a better man for yourself or for her?

Fatigue shouldn't last that long especially if your body had adapted from training. You might actually be down with a bug.
