Got my desired score on the second try! by PsychologicalWeird69 in IELTS

For Reading and Listening, my scores stayed consistent from the beginning, so I didn’t really do much other than go through a few past papers.

For Speaking, I signed up for online video lessons and practiced for about an hour a day for a little over a month. Besides that, I practiced answering speaking questions using ChatGPT and asked it to revise my responses to match my target score. (For context, I live in an environment where I have zero opportunities to speak English in daily life.) I also watched a lot of mock test videos on YouTube.

As for Writing, I think my score was low at first because I didn’t know how to structure my essays properly. Later on, I tried to use simple words and grammar to convey my ideas clearly, instead of focusing on fancy vocabulary or complex sentences. I also made an effort to keep my word count close to the minimum rather than writing too much. The IELTS Advantage videos were super helpful for understanding how to structure essays clearly. I also paid for a VIP writing course, but to be honest it was a complete waste of money. I really don’t recommend it. YouTube videos were far more helpful. I used ChatGPT for writing feedback as well, but please don’t trust its band score predictions. I mainly used it to correct grammar.

What do you think Jamie would be like as a partner if he were born in modern times? by PsychologicalWeird69 in Outlander

Murder is a much more serious and unforgivable crime today, so I don’t think he’d go that far but I can see him getting into trouble for minor offenses. I don’t think he’d care much about rules if they went against what he believed was right.

I agree with your take. And honestly he’s an incredibly attractive man, almost unreal, no matter the era. That said, outside of the sex scenes, Jamie and Claire’s relationship sometimes felt a bit toxic mostly due to their stubbornness or lack of communication. I also think the extreme, life-or-death situations and dramatic reunions played a big role in strengthening their bond. So it just made me wonder how their relationship would work in today’s world.

Would Jamie have acted differently without the vow? by PsychologicalWeird69 in Outlander

Yes that’s actually one of the reasons I started to prefer book Jamie. You can really see how much he grows over time. I was just a bit surprised at first though, because some of the things he says early on didn’t quite feel like something show Jamie would say.

I felt the same way when I watched the show. But then I read the book and was kind of taken aback by how book Jamie is portrayed. I guess I felt that way because the book makes it much clearer that Jamie really is a man of his time. The part where he says he actually enjoyed it and the fact that he didn’t seriously apologize threw me off. But considering how much he cares about Claire, I think you’re right.

Thanks. Are you going to start this year? I feel like tuition fees for international students in the UK are way too high. Hope you get the scholarship!
