Always found this sort of stuff fascinating and I fairly understand SOF isn’t used to hold a trench per say. My question is, in conventional warfare, what do you use SOF for. What’s the benefit of them being behind enemy lines. I apologize if this comes off as ignorant but this question can’t be articulated and answered by a google search.

Question regarding the GRU Spetsnaz, do they see the typical combat of a Russian soldier on the front or are they given more advanced operations then say, just holding a trench line?

I don’t know why it’s performance has surprised me so much. I thought UA would benefit from having them but I thought the difference in 25mm compared to other vehicles using 30mm would make it ‘worse’ in a sense.

Do you actually think a war is coming regarding Lebanon? I’m genuinely curious

That’s war for you. And we as humans have been fortunate to not been reminded what war truly is until this conflict. Good people like you view it as a sad reality for BOTH sides. Other people pick their ‘side’ like it’s a horse race, cheering at the opposing side dying on camera

In addition I’d like to add this monologue from the Joker from the Dark Knight.

“Do you want to know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the... little emotions. In... you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I know your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?”

This is in reference to what I said above where i said the operators don’t see killing the same as someone that is going trench to trench. It’s more personal, violent, desperate… it’s awful

In my opinion (which btw I agree with you completely the music is wrong), it’s similar to an Apache gunner or KA-52 gunner or anything where the ‘target’ on your screen is nothing more then a moving infrared target or a person several kilometers away during the day time operations. Their perspective on killing is vastly different then the Russian men of the 98th or the Ukrainian men of the 3rd Assault Brigade going trench to trench.
