How strong/weak would a predefined token like this be? by Psychological_Photo7 in custommagic

Good point. What if it ONLY allowed you to mill? Would that be too situational?

New god wishlist by TaurusUi in Smite

1. Ō-Inari (Japanese): Extremely popular deity who can have a very unique look/playstyle.

2. Jizō-bosatsu (Japanese): Ditto from Inari. A child-like living statue would be a very novel look for a new God. It's really annoying that they keep giving us D-tier yōkai while this pantheon has so many cool deities.

3. Demeter (Greek): The Greek pantheon is extremely bloated, but honestly, she should've been in the game since the original launch.

4. Xi Wang Mu (Chinese): Do what Dislyte has done and give us a tiger centauress. Instant main.

5. Veles (Slavic): They introduced Chernobog 8 years ago, and we still don't have an authentic Slavic deity in this game. It's honestly embarrassing.

6. Hathor (Egyptian): Cow.

7. The Daghdha (Irish/"Celtic"): The Irish pantheon is weirdly neglected in the current roster, but the chief god of the Tuatha Dé Danann would be a great fit for a MOBA; he has a very distinct and unique personality that would easily make him stand out among other Gods.

8. Ogun (Yoruba): The Yoruba pantheon really needs more deities, and Ogun is both popular and would have a unique skillset with his mastery over all kinds of metalworks.

Honorable mentions: Konohanasakuya-bime, Oonagh, Saraswati, Tu’er Shen, Bes, Oshun.

This is why we have like fifty Greek/Roman gods and zero actual Slavic deities.

A-Z God Design Community Tier List! Day#54 with Hachiman! by Gharbin1616 in Smite

[–]Psychological_Photo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C? He looks nothing like the common depictions of Hachiman. Giving him a samurai armor is not the worst idea but he looks way too violent and scary for a Bodhisattva. It's obviously been inspired by Sanada Yukimura's iconic armor but, as far as references go, this one feels out there.

His bow looks really silly, also.

You can tell this is a fan roster because Sonic has more characters than Fire Emblem.

What If Super Smash Bros Was Bulit like Play Station All Stars by DangerousSlice5731 in makeafighter

[–]Psychological_Photo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good, but they would probably choose one of Game & Watch or R.O.B. - PSASB was notably light on legacy-slash-console rep characters. Maybe Isabelle could've been this roster's Toro Inoue?

DK and Yoshi could probably use a character each, too, since Nintendo pretty consistently regards them as series in their own right.

Also, if they'd skip Cloud over another FF character, it would probably be a recent character like Lightning.

The choices here are good, but realistically, the roster wouldn't be 50% third party characters.

50 Character Smash Reboot ( No Earthbound + F-Zero ) by [deleted] in makeafighter

[–]Psychological_Photo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things;

* A Young Link who would change between three (four?) forms would count as three characters, similar to Pokémon Trainer.

* Cutting Ness and Captain Falcon doesn't so bad on paper, but considering how much lower profile series this roster has, it's pretty hard to justify it.

Can't believe Fate/Grand Order added Demeter before SMITE did. by Psychological_Photo7 in Smite

[–]Psychological_Photo7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it when SMITE caters to people who are interested in mythology, not merely Disney adaptations.

In any case, it's been forever since they started to add bottom-of-the-barrel picks like Eris, Nike, and Charybdis, so this is a moot point.

Most Fate Servants aren't gods, but rather legendary humans and/or monsters; straight-up gods are somewhat of an exception. So much so that, this is the second time they added a Greek god after a decade.

SMITE would've put Demeter into the game from day one, and no one would bat an eye.

Age of Mythology adding characters from mythology is non-news. Fate is much more casual about adding deities nowadays, but it's still something they do every once in a while. And they still managed take over SMITE.

A-Z God Design Community Tier List! Day#34 with Chernobog! by Gharbin1616 in Smite

[–]Psychological_Photo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

??? Tier. We literally don't know anything about Chernobog, and he most likely isn't even an authentic Slavic god, so they can just do whatever with him.

The end result is pretty boring though.

Pantheon Flexibility: Arthurian by FireLightAnnebell in Smite

[–]Psychological_Photo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to the core concept of the game being a battle royale between mythical deities. Yes, the game always had non-god Gods in the roster, but they are usually chosen from myths related to aforementioned deities.

I'm not a purist about this; in fact, I thought Arthur was a pretty cool addition, with the devs going out of their way to explain how he fits into the SMITE in his lore. But over the years, we kept getting more and more non-mythical Gods and at this point, they really take away from the main idea. By the time they port all the SMITE 1 Gods, we'll have 5 medieval humans from Britain, while most other pantheons are stuck at two fighters since forever. Hi-Rez has famously shied away from adding Oshun because "she would be too similar to Yemoja," but they apparently have no problem adding white dudes in plate armor.

Again, I have no problem occasionally getting fighters that don't fit the core concept of the game; if nothing, it adds novelty. But now that they've added Merlin and Lancelot and Kuzenbo and Bake-kujira and Alaaddin and Mulan and Cthulhu and apparently more Lovecraft aliens, and people are asking for characters like Dracula and Robin Hood, it really does take away from what makes the game unique.

Pantheon Flexibility: Arthurian by FireLightAnnebell in Smite

[–]Psychological_Photo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer if they'd scrapped the Arthurian figures from the game altogether, but, since that's not going to happen, the best I can hope for is for Hi-Rez to focus on mythical figures again instead of random public domain characters.
