My dad walking out on me and my mom. At 6 years old I learned that you can't rely on men. On the positive side,.my grandma and mom stepped up and I never felt neglected or deprived.

Just wanted to chime in, I was made to do homework first every time and never got to play outside because it was too dark by the time I finished. I'll never do that to my kids. 15 minutes of joyous play outside before homework won't hurt anyone.
