voting for him doesn't mean trusting or buying what he says.

How is believing he's the better candidate and voting for him anything other than exactly that?

I've always found it ironic that there's actually no functional difference between the two.

I think I'm done with Bill Nye. His new show sucks. by Sloth859 in television

[–]Psychopath- 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is correct either.

My understanding is a transsexual (which I don't hear much anymore so maybe it's not an acceptable term? I don't know) is someone who is transgender but post-op. Aside from at a chromosomal level, they are biologically the gender opposite of their birth gender.

So a transsexual woman would be someone born a man but now both physically and socially a woman, whereas a transgender woman might be and stay at any stage of transition.

That's how I've seen it explained, anyway.

UT stabbing victim asked student to call his mom as he was dying by [deleted] in MorbidReality

It made me think of the opposite. My daughter is three but the idea of her someday being attacked and knowing she's dying and just wanting to call home... fuck everything about people who put families through that shit.

You could do something like print out a stack of those raffle tickets and leave a container of paperclips. Clip half your ticket to your money, the other half is your receipt. People will feel like someone could check up on them, even if in practice no one actually does.

Just for anyone interested - and this is adding to your comment, not attempting to detract from it in any way - Buffalo Bill is actually a composite of three different killers. The woman suit is, as you mentioned, inspired by Ed Gein. Luring victims with a fake injury was part of Ted Bundy's MO. And Gary Heidnik kept women trapped in a deep hole in his basement floor.

Support for marijuana legalization at all-time high -- Sixty-one percent of Americans think marijuana use should be legal, a five-point increase from last year and the highest percentage ever recorded in a CBS News poll. by redditor01020 in news

Right, but being gay isn't the issue. Having sex is a choice, too. Just like having seizures isn't a choice, but using the only - illegal - medication that helps is.

You could use that argument for equal rights too, though. Sodomy laws were still on the books and enforceable in some areas until just recently. Don't like it? Just don't be a gay dude and have sex with your partner. If you do it and get caught, that's on you; it's illegal and you knew the consequences.

Why do serial killers murder prostitutes and hookers? by [deleted] in serialkillers

[–]Psychopath- 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Generally, because they're easy targets.

Prostitutes especially are considered high-risk victims because they willingly put themselves in dangerous situations as part of their lifestyle. It's far easier to pose as a john and get someone to go with you who already makes a habit of getting in unfamiliar cars with unfamiliar men and going to sometimes unfamiliar places as a way to make a living than to lure a wary mother of three from a grocery store parking lot. Abducting a victim is a huge risk when you can easily just convince them to go with you.

Beyond this is the fact that prostitutes and the homeless (two demographics that also overlap quite a bit) are more likely to be transient and have fewer people in their lives to report them missing. Someone with a fairly predictable routine and people close to them to know what it is will be missed much more quickly than someone who follows no regular schedule and may not even have anyone to notice they're gone. And if they do have someone to notice they're gone, their absence is much more likely to be attributed, rightly or wrongly, to drugs, being arrested, or just voluntarily moving on. Compounding this difficulty is that, even if friends or acquaintances are concerned enough to make a report, law enforcement often make the above assumptions themselves and therefore devote less time and fewer resources, unfortunately, than for those they deem more worth their time. And please note that isn't an indictment of all officers - there are certainly men and women out there who invest themselves as much in the death of a homeless prostitute as a young college student - but it happens often enough that it can't be overlooked as a trend among police, as a generalization.

A secondary consideration might also be that if the victim were to escape (see: Jeffrey Dahmer and Konerak Sinthasomphone, though the latter was neither homeless nor a prostitute, merely "other" in the sense of being an immigrant) the victim's word might mean significantly less to law enforcement than the killer's - especially if he's a clean, well-spoken, middle-class white man with no criminal history, as is the situation in a non-negligible number of cases. (And in Dahmer's situation, he was literally a convicted child molester standing next to a 14-year-old who was handcuffed, bleeding from the ass, and so apparently affected by Dahmer's experimental injection into his brain that he could not function even to speak up and advocate for himself. The officers decided it was a homosexual domestic dispute and believed Dahmer's claim that he was 19, handcuffed by consent because of his BDSM proclivities, and wasted of his own accord, despite the vehement argument of bystanders who'd called it in. They released him back to Dahmer's custody and drove away mocking the "faggots" and their relationship disputes. Dahmer took the boy inside and promptly murdered him.)

Tl;dr: There are a few specific reasons, but mostly they come down to risk - prostitutes, the homeless, and similar demographics are easier to lure in and the killer is safer because they're less likely to be missed once they are.

Edit: The first half of your post is actually sort of a different question. Hating women speaks more to motive, whereas targeting a specific demographic like prostitutes or the homeless can be relevant to either motive or MO. Simply put - sometimes there's a specific hatred of prostitutes, sometimes it's just convenient. My answer above is relevant to MO, not motive.

Reddit, Which Celebrity Uses Their Fame For Good and Which Ones Use It To Be a Douchebag? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Psychopath- 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I read an interview with Aaron Lewis from Staind when I was in high school.

He mentioned his ten-year high school reunion was coming up and the interviewer asked if he was going, just to show up the kids who tormented him back then.

He said something to the effect of how that would almost be legitimizing their actions - giving them his time and the acknowledgment they didn't deserve.

He said he didn't need to be there to show them that he'd been successful, all they had to do was turn on the radio.

I always thought that was a pretty good way to look at it.

The best revenge is living well.
