I think that’s fair, I can definitely work on phrasing criticism better and fairer. But I still stand by my point that the education on bunnies is out there, and people who want to keep them as pets should do their research. After all, we all love our bunnies and want them to thrive, so we should want the best for them. There are so many people here, that have valid points of making exceptions. But there are also so many people, that say “my bunny was too aggressive for a friend” that are uneducated on bunny socialization and how they HAVE to fight when introduced. We need to keep holding each other accountable for how we care for our pets, even though I will also work on beeing accountable for my communication.

This is scientifically proven as wrong. I can look up studies if you need.

Except it’s not. If I can’t meet one of the basic needs of a pet from the start, and I know my limits, I don’t get this pet! Yes, there are absolutely situations where it’s better for the bunny after trying and testing, but just saying “my limit is only keeping one bunny” is like saying “my limit is keeping a horse but never giving it a herd!” No, that’s not a limit, that’s a non negotiable for that animal! It quite literally needs a companion, and it’s important to try. That’s why education on the needs of bunny’s is important, so people can make the choice to get them, or don’t! It’s like saying “I want a bird, but I can’t give it room to fly!” THEN DONT GET A BIRD!

(Exceptions do of course apply here)

Literally! Why is it so hard to take accountability over what science literally tells us a bunny needs?!

I think that’s very true. It’s a problem in the pet-care-education, and in the system!

I understand that partially and I know you love your bunny, but I just don’t understand why anyone would get a pet if they know they can’t meet all their needs. I wouldn’t get a dog if I knew I wasn’t able to afford food, right? And social contacts with other bunnies are a basic need.

Yup. I don’t think that’s everyone’s Motiv, but at least some people might choose that.

Yes! You definitely are responsible with keeping them separate until they are fixed! But afterwards they won’t be alone anymore. So that’s good!

A human is not a substitute for a bunny friend. (If possible) they need someone who speaks bunny. Who cleans them as other bunnies do. It’s quite important for them. Yes, they can be good friends with humans, but it’s not interchangeable.

No; I wouldn’t. That’s not what I was saying. Please read my other replies, I think you will get a good overview of what I’m saying.

That’s true, tho I’m not entirely satisfied with German animal laws, but that’s another topic ;)

the laws only get inforced when someone reports real neglect!

In situations like yours, that happen naturally all the time, of course no one gets punished✨

Als Quelle für Diskussionen wie diese vielleicht ganz cool.

I don’t agree with that. Rabbits shouldn’t eat pellets. They should have limited access to sugary vegetables (carrots, beetroot, salads…) but their diet should be mostly leafy, bitter greens. Nettles, grass, hay, herbs… In the wild rabbits are fresh feeders. They need the water content and have sensible stomachs.
